Software Engineer, Pump and Abatement Support
Busch Vacuum Group is a leading manufacturer of vacuum pumps, compressors, and blowers used in industries such as semiconductor manufacturing, food processing, metallurgy, biomedical, and material handling.
We have an exciting direct hire opportunity for a Software Engineer focused on Pump and Abatement Support. The Software Engineer supports pump and abatement software across U.S. semiconductor customer sites, focusing on software integration, troubleshooting, and controls support for field, fabrication, and applications teams. The engineer provides technical ownership of PLC logic, Siemens environments, and related control systems.
Schedule:
Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, with occasional domestic or international travel (up to 20%).
- Software and Controls Support
- Own troubleshooting and support for PLC‑based pump and abatement systems
- Work with Siemens environments including TIA Portal and ladder logic
- Support field teams with debugging, logic reviews, and configuration checks
- Perform software testing, simulations, and validation before field release
- Review electrical schematics and align logic with system wiring and design
- Customer and Field Support
- Provide prompt support to field service teams and customers
- Participate in escalations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions
- Travel to customer sites as needed for onsite troubleshooting and system support
- Communicate status updates and timelines clearly to all stakeholders
- Software Development and Analysis
- Support development, testing, and improvement of logic sequences
- Use tools such as Python, MATLAB, and JMP for data analysis and reporting
- Contribute to continuous improvement of control strategies and system reliability
- Work with French and German engineering teams on new features, updates, and bug fixes
- Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain documentation for code updates, logic revisions, and system changes
- Support reporting on software performance, issues, and improvements
- Update test plans, troubleshooting guides, and configuration records
- Ensure alignment with internal processes, version control, and release standards
- Perform additional, reasonable duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field (preferred)
- 3+ years of experience with industrial automation, PLC controls, or semiconductor equipment
- Experience supporting software or controls for pumps, abatement, vacuum systems, or related equipment
- Strong understanding of PLCs, Siemens software, and the SECS/GEM communication protocol
- Familiarity with Python, MATLAB, JMP, or related analysis tools
- Experience reading and troubleshooting electrical schematics
- Strong communication skills with field personnel, customers, and cross‑functional teams
- A combination of relevant experience and formal education
- German or French language skills are a plus as this individual will work with global engineering teams

- Frequent standing, walking, sitting, lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling up to 20 lbs
- Occasional climbing, squatting, kneeling, reaching above the shoulder, and lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling up to 50 lbs
