Position: Engineer, Biomedical I - Clackamas, OR

Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Clinical Technology Manager and Chief Biomedical Engineer, the Engineer, Biomedical I performs duties pertaining to acquisition, installation, calibration, corrective repair, preventive maintenance and decommissioning of medical equipment.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Advises on specifications for purchases of new equipment and recommends replacement of obsolete or irreparable equipment. Provides new product evaluation as requested.
  • Consults & collaborates with key stakeholders to prepare for installation & deployment of medical equipment and systems, including electrical, mechanical, gas, pneumatics, software, networking and integration to data/information retention systems. Performs or coordinates assembly and installation. Prepares periodic maintenance instructions. Performs required safety inspection & performance assurance on new equipment, assesses compliance with HIPAA storage & security policies, and documents entries into the centralized maintenance management system.
  • Directly performs or schedules with outside service vendors performance assessment & preventive maintenance on a variety of equipment per established procedures and documents work performed.
  • Analyzes & corrects malfunctions on a variety of medical equipment systems using observation, schematic interpretation, test equipment, component replacement, software updates, network restoration, calibration, and operator training; documents work performed.
  • Performs or coordinates remediation action on medical equipment safety & recall hazard alerts.
  • Performs investigative evaluation of medical equipment involved in patient & employee incidents/accidents and documents findings.
  • Provides training and assigns work orders to third‑party service vendors and student trainees; completes documentation in the centralized maintenance management system.
  • Performs or coordinates decommissioning of medical equipment per established policies.
  • Assists with staff in‑service education and cross‑trains new employees on use of test equipment, department procedures, and medical system support.
  • Develops and implements a plan for professional growth; maintains current knowledge of advancing technology, including Kaiser‑provided training as required.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties as directed in support of the organization’s needs.
Education
  • AAS degree in Biomedical Equipment Service Technology, Electronic Service Technology, or Computer Service Technology from an accredited program; or military training in Biomedical Equipment training or Electronic Systems Support.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Driver’s License (in location where applicable) required at hire.
Additional Requirements
  • Proficient in use of testing instruments, devices, simulators, and tools associated with servicing electronic equipment.
  • Mathematical ability, attention to detail, concentration, and alertness.
  • Reading, writing, and speaking English fluently.
  • Background in servicing and repairing electronic and electromechanical equipment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in customer service, interpersonal relations, adaptability, change management, decision making, oral communication, problem solving, project management, quality management, results orientation, teamwork, and written communication.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum six (6) months experience in repair & maintenance of medical equipment.
  • Knowledge & skill using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Computer networking certification.
  • Background servicing medical equipment with emphasis on multi‑manufacturer experience.
  • Experience servicing computer client‑server systems.
