The Malta Business Registry, established under Subsidiary Legislation 595.27, is responsible for the registration of new commercial partnerships, the registration of documents related to commercial partnership, the issuing of certified documentation including certificates of good-standing amongst others, the reservation of company names, the collection of registration and other fees, the publication of notices and the imposition and collection of penalties. The Registry also conducts investigations of companies and the keeping of the company and partnership register.
The M houses the Malta Tax and Customs Administration, which complements the other Business Units of the M such that a one-stop service for operators in the financial services sector is available. The Malta Tax and Customs Administration forms part of the Office of the Commissioner for Revenue under the Ministry for Finance. It is entrusted to assist international business from a fiscal perspective with the aim to promote international investment.

The RoleThe Malta Tax and Customs Administration (MTCA) is seeking to recruit a motivated individual with an interest in indirect taxation to join its Indirect Taxation Directorate as an Associate Analyst in Grade 9.
This role offers a unique opportunity for individuals in the early years of their professional career to gain critical experience in VAT and other indirect tax matters.
The selected candidate will be expected to develop a knowledge of indirect tax principles and legislation in the performance of their duties, under the direction, guidance and supervision of senior officials. The Analyst will contribute to a range of functions supporting the Director for Indirect Taxation, which may include:
- Assisting in the preparation of technical responses and guidance to queries on indirect tax matters from stakeholders, both local and international, and supporting senior officials in meetings and consultations.
- Supporting the Indirect Taxation Team in the planning, coordination, and implementation of projects and initiatives led by the Indirect Taxation Directorate.
- Supporting senior members of the Team in providing technical support on indirect tax matters to other teams within the MTCA.
- Supporting senior members of the Team with Malta’s representation in international fora, including meetings, working groups, and seminars organised the EU Commission, EU Council, OECD, and other relevant organisations.
- Supporting the team in monitoring and reporting of performance indicators relevant to the Indirect Taxation Directorate.
- Assisting in the preparation of responses to questionnaires and statistical reports requested by institutions such as the European Commission and the OECD.
Furthermore s/he will be expected to assist in other duties as may be directed from time to time either by the Commissioner for Tax and Customs or by any other official to whom the Commissioner’s authority is delegated. Any other duties described above may change depending on the exigencies of the MTCA and/or the M .
About You- Preference will be given to candidates who possess a University of Malta Degree in Accounting or Banking & Finance or in Legal (LL.D) or equivalent academic qualification in a relevant field of study at National Qualification Framework Level 6 or better, duly certified by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC)
* or a widely recognised professional qualification at a comparable level; OR - Consideration will also be given to Candidates with an NQF Level 5 Diploma in a related area and three (3) years prior work experience in an assistant managerial role within a related area; OR
- Candidates who at least possess five (5) years’ prior experience in an assistant managerial role within a related area.
