Performs in the scrub role during surgical procedures and coordinates other activities with OR professionals.
Practice standards of performance:
Complies with shift, unit, and organizational policies; maintains reliability and attendance; informs about policy changes; participates in Quality Assurance; maintains confidentiality (HIPAA); promotes collaboration; attends in‑services and staff meetings.Assessment Standard of Performance:
Communicates to maintain continuity of care with patient, family, and staff; facilitates pre‑operative briefing and time out; provides continuous reassessment during surgery.Planning Standard of Performance:
Utilizes knowledge of the procedure to plan for appropriate setup; ensures age‑appropriate care.Implementation Standard of Performance:
Applies aseptic technique; evaluates and manages sterile packs; prioritizes duties for case carts, restocking, and reordering supplies; assists with emergency measures; coordinates room turnover; participates in reprocessing.
- Minimum two (2) years of current scrubbing experience in total joint procedures (hips, knees, revisions, fractures, cable systems, hemi‑arthroplasty).
- Graduate of an accredited School of Surgical Technology.
- Surgical Technologist Certificate required at hire.
- Basic Life Support required at hire.
- Knowledge of sterile core area.
- Knowledge of sterile technique, OR procedures, equipment, and instrumentation; dexterity with hands; effective interpersonal relationships; good judgment and discipline.
- Ability to follow instruction.
- Knowledge of all total joint instrumentation, equipment, and supplies.
- Two (2) to five (5) years of scrubbing experience in all surgical procedures in inpatient or ambulatory OR settings.
- Ability to rotate through sterile core area.
- Experience cleaning and reprocessing instruments, stocking supplies, and picking case carts.
- Minimum three (3) years of current scrubbing experience in total joint procedures (hips, knees, revisions, fractures, cable systems, hemi‑arthroplasty).
- Ability to scrub hip arthroscopy.
