CoreObjectives
- Attorney Assistance. Utilize strong work ethic, amassed knowledge of local and state rules, and expertise with basic legal proceedings, complimented by the ability to assist with court processes to provide legal assistance to Attorneys in our Family Law practice.
- Client Experience. Provide excellent care to our clients from the start of a case to the end, by executing and meeting project deadlines to support the client experience in the Family Law Department.
- Firm Initiatives. Supports Firm initiatives by provide mentorship and training to Paralegals by coordinating and delegating projects as well as overseeing the outcomes.
What follows is a sample list of responsibilities in this role. This list is not intended to be exclusive but will identify some typical day-to-day tasks and projects.
Attorney Assistance- Provide case-management assistance including tracking case deadlines.
- Drafting and preparation of necessary case-related pleadings or other documents including Asset and Liability Statements, Mediation/Trial/Hearing Memorandums, demonstrative exhibits, Parent Evaluation Notebooks.
- Provide coverage for other Senior Paralegals during absences or overloads.
- Research and pull statutes, rules, cases, legislative histories, etc.
- Maintain working knowledge of the status of discovery.
- Assist with case coverage during Paralegal/Senior Paralegal absences.
- Assist clients by troubleshooting questions/problems when Attorney is unavailable.
- Communicating directly with clients and other professionals, verbally and in writing, to assist in providing case-related documents.
- Working directly with clients to complete forms and pleadings.
- Providing support to assist with firm goals and objectives being met in a timely manner.
- Assisting your team members to prepare files to be closed, prepare post-judgment or post-agreement checklists for clients and Attorneys.
- Use program timers to accurate track time spent on project and enter time into billing system each day.
- Provide mentorship to Family Law Paralegals and Senior Paralegals.
- Assist in training and implementation of technology systems for Family Law Department (i.e., e-discovery platform).
- Participate in internal education opportunities, development trainings, and department meetings.
- Represent the Firm in legal and community events and activities.
- Participate in Firm committees, events, and socials.
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, communications, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of Family Law experience with demonstration of necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to proactively and independently anticipate and attend to case needs and coordinate workflow with Attorneys and/or other team members.
- Experience which enables independent assessment of, and contribution to, the development of case strategy, including working independently and proactively come up with strategic moves and anticipation of next steps.
- Specialized knowledge related to division of assets (real property, retirement, investments, stocks, life insurance, business formation documents, trust and estate documents, etc.) and the tax implications thereof.
- Experience reading and interpreting tax returns, K1s, and other asset statements.
- Knowledge of, and experience with, all stages of family law litigation and case-specific court processes and procedures, including local and state rules and terminology.
