The Village Board is seeking applications to fill the student member vacancy on the Sustainability Committee.
CompositionThe sustainability committee shall consist of seven (7) members appointed by the village president, subject to confirmation by majority vote of the village board. One Page 16 of 24 member shall be a Village of Oregon trustee who shall serve for a one (1) year term. One member shall be a student. All other members, except student members, shall hold office for three (3) year terms, except that to achieve staggered three-year terms, initial appointments shall be as follows: one (1) member for a term of one (1) year;
two (2) members for a term of two (2) years; and two members (2) for a term of three (3) years. The initial appointments to the committee shall be deemed to have been made at the first organizational meeting following the April election in 2023, such that terms shall extend to, and further appointments shall be made at, the first organizational meeting following the April election each year.
For example, initial appointments for one (1) year terms shall serve until the organization meeting following the April election in 2024. All members shall be residents of the Village of Oregon. Vacancies shall be filled by appointment of the Village President, subject to confirmation by the Village Board. A majority of the members of the committee, excluding any vacant positions, shall constitute a quorum, except that a quorum may not consist of less than three (3) members.
The committee shall annually in May select from its members a chair, vice chair, and secretary. The chair, or vice chair in the chair’s absence, shall preside over all meetings of the committee. The secretary shall keep true and accurate records of the proceedings of the committee.
MeetingsMeetings of the committee shall be at the call of the chairperson and such other times as the committee may determine.
CompensationNo member shall receive any compensation for their service on the committee.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe sustainability committee shall serve in an advisory capacity to the village board. The committee is responsible for advising the village board on implementing, evaluating, and achieving continued progress on the goals and strategies in the village’s adopted sustainability plan. To fulfill this responsibility the committee may engage in the evaluation, development, and recommendation of priorities, objectives, initiatives, proposals, programs, policies, events, and metrics.
The committee may develop and submit recommendations to the village board amending or periodically updating the sustainability plan as desired. The village board may refer matters to the committee for its consideration and recommendation.
