The Wallowa Canyonlands Partnership (WCP) is a WR program that provides weed control management to reduce the impact of noxious weeds in Northeast Oregon and Southeast Washington. With public and private partners, WCP staff monitors and manages weed infestations in the rugged, remote, and steep Canyonlands of the Snake River watershed and some of its tributaries, including the Grande Ronde and Imnaha Rivers.

The Field Technician will receive necessary education and training to contribute to the Wallowa Canyonlands Partnership field activities. The Field Technician will work with WCP staff, agency partners, and landowners to implement weed management across jurisdictional boundaries.

• Provide support to all weed control activities for the Wallowa Canyonlands Partnership, including overnight trips, rafting, hiking long distances over rough terrain, carrying packs weighing over 50 lbs., working alone in remote locations, and mixing and applying herbicide by backpack or ATV sprayers.
• Navigate to field sites using a handheld GPS, maps, and recording daily tracklogs.
• Implement effective weed control programs with private and public partners using integrative weed management techniques in the WCP program area. Activities will include chemical treatments, contract oversight, and biological control releases all in rugged and very remote terrain.
• Manage field equipment and supplies including vehicles, ATV, herbicides, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), other equipment, and storage facilities. Maintains current Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
• Regularly reports all field activities to the WCP Program Manager and collaborates closely with WCP staff and partners to ensure high‑quality implementation of noxious weed management.
• Collect ecological data for all treatment sites and works with WCP staff to accurately integrate information into program databases.
• Data collection, input, management and analysis.
• Maintain clear communication with all partners and landowners.
• Respond to landowner requests, needs and requirements by providing various products and services.
• Provide input for educational and outreach materials and potential research projects.
• Periodically shadow the WCP Manager and other staff or partners to build an understanding of natural resource program operations, contracting and reporting.

• A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Post‑high school education or experience in the natural resource field is preferred.
• Good communication skills and strong work ethic.
• Experience living and working in remote places and the ability to creatively troubleshoot in remote environments.
• A valid Oregon Driver’s License and the ability to be insured by Wallowa Resources’ Insurance. (
