Overview
Bethany Manor, a non‑profit Christian seniors’ housing complex, seeks a full‑time Maintenance Service Worker. Applicants must enjoy working with older adults and be committed to providing a safe and healthy environment in a multi‑building complex.
The position reports to the Maintenance Manager and is located in an urban housing complex with apartments and townhouses.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with resident suite transitions by refurbishing suites (patching, painting, installing countertops, toilets, faucets, flooring prep, etc.)
- Inspect and maintain the buildings’ HVAC systems
- Ensure efficient operation of all building systems (plumbing, electrical, etc.)
- Perform general property and building envelope maintenance tasks
- Perform scheduled maintenance and minor repairs in commercial kitchens
- Maintain maintenance records
- Handle property landscaping, seasonal sidewalk maintenance and snow & ice removal
- Repair resident suites as requested (leaking faucet, plugged toilet, heat adjustment, etc.)
- Repair small appliances (vacuums, electric motors, pumps, etc.)
- Operate and maintain power and hand tools, lawn and snow maintenance equipment
- Participate in Maintenance Team planning
- Completed at least Grade 12.
- 1–2 years of previous maintenance experience.
- Work with minimal supervision
- Repair drywall, paint, move heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies
- Troubleshoot and perform minor repairs on appliances, electrical, plumbing, heating, cooling, and ventilation systems
- Empty waste containers
- Perform routine maintenance jobs and repairs
- Remove scraps, dirt, heavy debris and other refuse
- Bending, crouching, kneeling, sitting, standing, walking
- Physically demanding tasks with heavy loads and repetitive motions
- Work under pressure
- Valid Driver’s License and driver’s validity license check
- Criminal record check
- Bondable
- WHMIS 2015 Certificate
- Optional Fireman’s Certificate and valid driver’s license
- Snow blowers, small tractors (lawn/snow removal attachments), power lawn mowers, carpet cleaning machines, steam cleaners, power tools
- Contact contractors for repairs and maintenance
- Up to 23 kg (50 lbs)
- Public transportation available; valid driver’s license required
- Commitment to a safe and healthy environment in a multi‑building complex
- Skill in minor home renovations and basic carpentry, plumbing, and electrical knowledge
- 1–2 years of experience in maintaining efficient building operations and routine mechanical systems maintenance
- Team focused with willingness to work with minimal supervision
- Superior work ethic, strong decision‑making and problem‑solving skills, positive attitude, confidentiality
- Ability to recommend corrective action and implement repairs
- Enjoy working with older adults
