Position Summary

Under the direction of the Engineering and Operations Manager, a Journeyman Meterman Substation Technician’s duties include training in all aspects of the Co-op’s revenue metering program; maintaining, operating, and expanding the SCADA and other control and communications systems as required; completing customer complaint trouble shooting; completing load and voltage surveys; and providing technical support for the installation, maintenance and operation of all equipment and control circuitry on the electric system and in substations.

This position will perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or general education degree.
  • Valid Oregon State driver’s license.
  • This position requires five (5) years as a Journeyman Meterman and a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in applicable areas. Wireman/Relay and Protection knowledge preferred.
  • Valid First Aid/CPR Card, or the ability to obtain within 3 months of regular status employment.
  • Forklift Certification, or the ability to obtain within 6 months of regular status employment.
  • Must be willing, available, and responsive to 24-hour callout for emergency situations.
  • Union membership is required within 30 days after hire date- IBEW Local 125

  • Knowledge of electrical equipment maintenance, electrical construction, and general project management.
  • Knowledge of electric utility metering and system operations.

  • Demonstrate good organizational and time management skills; set priorities and handle multiple deadlines and projects with interruptions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Installs, reads, maintains, repairs, tests, calibrates and programs all types of electrical energy metering Including CT and PT Transformers.
  • Establishes and maintains an inventory of single and poly phase meters, test switches and instrument transformers.
  • Responsible for all aspects of any future AMR/AMI, SCADA systems and will work with billing, engineering, and operations on the systems to ensure proper operations and reads and maintain a working database.
  • Responsible for power quality recording and report findings to engineers and operations and meet with customers to answer questions related to power quality.
  • Identifies, supervises, and performs necessary maintenance testing, operations and installation of substation equipment including transformers, air, oil, and vacuum switches, reclosers, circuit breakers and voltage regulators.
  • Assists line crew and serviceman in the repair and operation of the Distribution and Transmission system as needed.
  • Become proficient in and trained as an IT specialist.
  • An employee who is qualified as a Journeyman Lineman may do high voltage switching and substation operations.
  • Remain informed, through all available resources of new metering, protection and electronic control developments, procedures, and practices.
  • Assist in developing annual work program and budget; develop plans and procedures for the most effective use of working time for the above responsibilities and authorities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

This is a full-time position. This position requires that the employee be available for work outside the normal daily work period, which is Monday – Thursday 6:30AM to 5:00PM. Travel may be required within the five-county service territory during the business day and occasionally overnight.
