Facilities Maintenance Technician - Open Until Filled

The City of Portland is hiring multiple Facilities Maintenance Technicians. Candidates hired into this position must possess a State of Oregon Limited Maintenance Electricians (LME) license or higher because of their work with existing electrical systems.

Job Appointment: Regular, full-time

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm with occasional on‑call work and opportunities for overtime.

Work Location: 3315 NW Yeon. Fieldwork required at multiple sites throughout the city.

Position Summary

The Facilities Maintenance Technician performs preventative maintenance and repair of heating, ventilation, and cooling (HVAC) systems, lighting, plumbing, and commercial building equipment. The candidate will also conduct emergency response, test, and maintain small equipment and appliances.

As a Facilities Maintenance Technician, You Will
  • Perform preventive maintenance on plumbing, electrical, mechanical systems, and related components; test systems’ competency and evaluate performance.
  • Repair and replace plumbing, electrical, mechanical systems, and system components, including sensors.
  • Maintain induction and air handling units; clean and inspect all equipment; maintain and service refrigeration units.
  • Estimate and evaluate small equipment replacement and maintenance projects; manage selected contractor work and recommend final payment.
  • Assist in reviewing new construction or remodel plans to ensure compliance with facility maintenance standards and specifications.
  • Repair and maintain facilities structures; perform minor repairs to plumbing, low‑voltage and line‑voltage electrical systems, door hardware, fire, life, and safety protection equipment, sprinkler systems, and irrigation lines.
  • Repair and maintain small, motorized equipment and engines, and conduct structural inspections for safety.
  • Respond to emergency calls, monitor needs, provide technical assistance, and may serve as lead.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Knowledge of facility maintenance practices including plumbing, mechanical, and related hardware/software.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and OSHA standards.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse workforce and respond to questions from employees and the public.
  • Knowledge of maintenance, repair, and replacement of building systems including chillers, fan systems, and pumps.
  • Experience performing repair and replacement of electrical components.
Applicants Must Also Possess
  • Oregon Limited Maintenance Electrical (LME) License or higher.
  • CFC Handler and Refrigerant Recovery Certification within six months of hire.
  • A current valid state driver's license meeting City “good driver” requirements.
  • Ability to pass an in‑depth background investigation.
  • Ability to pass a pre‑employment physical examination after an offer has been made.

Optional additional certifications:

  • HVAC Completion from a 2‑year trade school or apprenticeship.
  • ORACCA Brazing Certification or equivalent.
  • State of Oregon Backflow Tester/Cross Connection Inspector.
  • State of Oregon Class 3 Boiler License.
