Hillsborough County Victim Assistance Program

Salary:
Starting annual salary $45,011.20

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Criminology, Psychology or Sociology and one (1) year of experience preferred working in the criminal justice system;

OR

Bachelor's Degree in an unrelated field and three (3) years of experience preferred in the criminal justice system.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
  • Considerable knowledge of criminal and juvenile laws.
  • Considerable knowledge of felony, misdemeanor, juvenile and injunction legal procedures.
  • Considerable knowledge of social service agencies that provide assistance to crime victims.
  • Considerable knowledge of court proceedings and actions.
  • Working knowledge of psychological and behavioral counseling theories and techniques.
  • Skill in conducting personal interviews.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability to follow established procedures.
  • Ability to collect, organize and evaluate data and develop logical conclusions.
  • Ability to safeguard confidential information.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain case records and related reports.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

Note:

Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform one or more of the activities described below.

  • Provides crime victim assistance information to the general public.
  • Conducts interviews, determines program eligibility and provides social service referrals.
  • Notifies crime victims of court dates and case disposition.
  • Coordinates mediators for case hearings and schedules appropriate facilities.
  • Provides crime victim assistance through the coordination of services, court escorts and follow up of compensation benefits applications.
  • Provides emotional support, counseling and social services referrals to reduce crime victims physical, emotional or financial hardships.
  • Prepares and maintains case records, contact information and reports.
  • Serves as liaison between victims, attorneys, criminal justice personnel, law enforcement and other service agencies.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
