. This position provides support to the transportation manager/director in supervising activities related to delivery and backhauls. Responsibilities include training and supervising associates, ensuring compliance with regulations, and promoting safety within the transportation department.

Schedule

Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise daily work and safety of transportation associates, ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures, food safety standards, preferred work methods, planned routes, and efficient customer service.
  • Ensure associates comply with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies (DOT, OSHA, etc.) and maintain accurate electronic logs.
  • Oversee labor hours and consumable supplies within budget.
  • Prepare work schedules, including extra work days and shifts as needed.
  • Assist in training new associates and cross‑training existing staff.
  • Direct proper selection and utilization of company assets to support the delivery department.
  • Coordinate required repairs with appropriate departments.
  • Review delivery functions and productivity reporting; suggest efficiency ideas, cost‑reduction measures, and assist with implementation of delivery changes.
  • Interpret, train, and consistently enforce company policies, protocols, and procedures (food safety, DOT, record‑keeping, etc.).
  • Communicate with warehouse and customer service teams to resolve customer or delivery issues.
  • Visit customer locations to address issues and assess delivery difficulty.
  • Maintain positive associate relations through regular departmental or pre‑shift meetings.
  • Keep open communication channels with associates by answering questions and explaining policies and procedures.
  • Monitor associate morale, submitting and responding to ideas to improve engagement and enablement.
  • Work with safety manager to aid in training, conduct associate observations, update preferred work methods, investigate accidents, and perform routine safety inspections.
  • Make recommendations for corrective action and/or behavior modification where required.
  • Perform management functions of staff selection, development, discipline, performance reviews, and/or terminations.
  • Work assigned schedule, exhibit regular and predictable attendance, and work outside the normal schedule as required to meet workload demands.
  • Perform the duties of supervised associates and other related duties as needed (and as qualified).
Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent; or a combination of education and related experience.
  • 2‑ or 4‑year college degree in business management, supply chain management, or a similar major preferred.

Experience

  • 2‑4 years of transportation experience and/or training.
  • Commercial Vehicle Driver must have the ability to read and speak English sufficiently to converse with the general public, understand highway traffic signs and signals in English, respond to official inquiries, and make entries on reports and records.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

  • Class A Commercial Driver’s License is preferred but not required.
  • Certificate of DOT regulations training preferred.

Professional Skills

  • Knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, DOT rules, regulations, preferred work methods, and SOP; spreadsheet and word‑processing software.
  • Skilled in making independent decisions in support of company policies and procedures on time.
  • Ability to successfully engage and lead individual and team discussions and meetings.
  • Problem‑solving and interpreting a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Apply all relevant policies consistently, timely, and objectively.
  • Work in a disciplined manner and comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Manage stress associated with deadline‑oriented atmosphere and customer service issues.
  • Learn SYGMA technology software and programs.
  • Read, comprehend, write, and speak English.
