Railroad Safety Flagger Western Region – Join Rail Pros to protect workers on live railroad tracks.

Job Summary

The Roadway Worker in Charge (RWIC) ensures on‑site protection for activities near live tracks. Responsibilities include jobsite coordination, dispatcher communication, and strict application of On‑Track Safety procedures across controlled and non‑controlled track areas. The role requires extensive travel across Arizona, California, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Jobsite Protection:
    Ensure safe work zones, verify limits via radio communication, and allow train passage through clear limits.
  • Daily Briefings:
    Conduct briefings with all onsite personnel to meet railroad safety requirements.
  • Documentation:
    Prepare and submit electronic forms – job set‑up, daily reports, invoices, and other required reports.
  • Tool Handling:
    Maneuver and place signs, derail, and other equipment weighing 15–90 lbs.
  • Safety Training:
    Participate in routine safety classes and qualification training.
  • Communication:
    Keep supervisors and managers informed of assignments and schedules.
  • Additional Duties:
    Perform other tasks as needed to support business objectives.
QualificationsKnowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Meet physical demands and perform tasks effectively.
  • Warn roadway workers of approaching trains.
  • Understand on‑track safety training and qualifications for roadway workers.
  • Proficiency in radio procedures for RWIC/EIC- and work‑group communication.
  • Conduct job briefings at workers’ locations.
  • Place railroad advance warning and stop signs.
  • Install a railroad derail and apply the locking device.
  • Use electronic communications (email, text, standard office applications).
Required Education And Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Minimum 5 years as a RWIC with a Class I or Class II freight railroad.
  • Successful background checks, drug and alcohol testing, and completion of training and onboarding.
