The Art and Design Department at Utah Valley University invites applicants for a lecturer position in Art History for the 2026-27 academic year beginning August 2026. We seek a dynamic, inclusive, student-centered, and collaborative educator committed to undergraduate teaching. The successful candidate will teach primarily undergraduate survey courses in art history (ARTH 2710 Prehistoric through Gothic Art & ARTH 2720 Renaissance through Contemporary Art), which support the Art History BA and Art & Design programs as well as GE students across the university.

Teaching of other courses will be determined by the needs of the area and assigned by the area coordinator and department chair. Course delivery may include face-to-face, online, and/or livestream.

UVU, located in Orem, Utah, is a comprehensive state institution of higher education with over 46,000 students. Orem is on the western front of the Wasatch Mountains and offers access to numerous outdoor activities including snow sports, hiking, mountain biking, and hunting. • Teaches courses in the Art & Design Department primarily supporting undergraduate GE offerings in Art History. Expectations include planning, preparing, and following approved course of study with measurable objectives for each course taught. Prepares online instructional material (demos, visual presentations, and other instructional content) as necessary.
• Instructs, manages, and supervises individuals and groups in classrooms/labs or in online formats using methods such as lectures, demonstrations, discussions, visual aids, and the like. Maintains and submits accurate and current reports and records involving student accountability, attendance, performance, and follow-up.
• Other Teaching Responsibilities:
  Establishes and maintains office hours and advises and mentors students during this time and at other times as needed; assists advisors, department chairperson, faculty, and department staff in maintaining an effective program. Maintains currency in the courses taught.
• Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.

• MA in Art History, or a closely related field, from an accredited institution.
• Experience teaching in higher education. Knowledge and skill in current online instructions theories, strategies, techniques, and discipline content.

• Ph.D. in Art History, or a closely related field, from an accredited institution.
• Experience teaching art history in higher education.
• Demonstrated ability to teach a broad range of media and conceptual approaches.
• Experience mentoring student populations from a variety of backgrounds.

• Knowledge of art history from ancient to contemporary periods including theories and practices
• Knowledge in current instructional theory, methods, strategies, and techniques
