Utah Valley University supports student success by providing practical academic assistance through Accessibility Services. This role focuses on helping students with documented disabilities develop effective skills in goal setting, time management, organization, study strategies, and test-taking techniques. Support is delivered through both one-on-one appointments and structured workshop sessions designed to promote consistent academic progress.
This position places particular emphasis on instructional support for students with ADHD. Applicants will have the opportunity to work directly with students to develop individualized strategies that address attention, planning, and follow-through. The role is well suited for candidates who value clear instruction, structured problem-solving, and measurable outcomes in an educational setting.
- Provide instruction on time management, organization, note taking, test taking, and study skills to students in and small group sessions. Work closely with students to evaluate individual needs, create action plans, and make efforts for follow-up to support the successful implementation of study strategies. Research, source, and create study skill resources, understand assistive technology and best practices in learning strategies to utilize and share in individual and group settings.
- Coordinate with the Learning Specialist team to facilitate accommodation support for students. Including coordinating all aspects of peer note taking, recruiting peer note takers, assigning courses, and monitoring hours for volunteer certification. Provide instruction and assistance to students using note-taking apps and other technologies available through Accessibility Services.
- Coordinate with the Learning Specialist team to plan learning workshops, organize events, and prepare set up and take down. Prepare informational and hands‑on learning sessions for study tools, assistive technology, and academic success strategies.
- Maintain and update various sensitive records and databases and prepare a range of administrative reports, including routine data analysis and calculations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Learning Sciences, Special Education or related area; OR a combination of education and experience in teaching/tutoring for a total of 4 years.
Preferred QualificationsBachelor’s Degree in Education, Learning Sciences, Special Education, or related area. Experience teaching or tutoring students with disabilities. Teacher Certification in Special Education or related area.
Knowledge- Knowledge of Instructional Strategies and best practices in study skills, note taking, test taking, and time management.
- Knowledge of Reading Comprehension Strategies.
- Familiar with assistive technology and adaptive equipment.
- Familiar with academic accommodations for a variety of disabilities/diverse students with a specialization in ADHD.
- Skilled in the use of technology such as Microsoft Office (word processing, excel, power point), virtual meeting software, and the ability to learn new/emerging technology and software.
- Well developed organizational skills.
- Strong attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and organization.
- Ability to assess students’ needs to determine strategies and tools needed for academic success.
- Ability to instruct, manage, and motivate students.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
