Position Announcement

Adjunct faculty (including online faculty) must be able to live and work in the State of Utah

This is an ongoing job application for all adjunct faculty who teach in the Department of Student Leadership and Success Studies. Adjunct applications are reviewed only as needed; therefore, applicants should be aware they may not hear back about the status of their particular application. Adjunct faculty are hired on an as‑needed basis for a semester appointment only. Any offer of employment will be contingent upon the results of a background check, which includes a criminal records check.

Summary

of Responsibilities
  • Teaches courses in field of study; plans, prepares, and follows an approved course of study that includes measurable objectives for each course taught.
  • Prepares instructional materials (course outlines, syllabi, exams, mock‑ups, visual aids, and instruction sheets) as necessary.
  • Instructs, manages, and supervises individual students and groups in classrooms, laboratories, and shops through using appropriate teaching methods.
  • Evaluates instruction and learning by means of appropriate assessment methods.
  • Responds to student inquiries and otherwise communicates in a timely manner (e.g. no less than 48 hours).
  • Provides timely and substantive feedback on student assignments (e.g. no later than 7 days from the assignment due date).
  • Administers any required Student Learning Outcome (SLO) examinations.
  • Maintains a student‑oriented approach to education.
  • Recommends students for advancement and graduation.
  • Maintains and submits accurate and current reports and records involving student accountability, attendance, performance, and follow‑up.
  • Coordinates cooperative work experience programs and students as assigned.
  • Assists counselors, Department Chair, and/or Associate Chair, faculty, and department staff in maintaining an effective program.
  • Is available for student consultation, participates in meetings with supervisors, and participates in faculty and other meetings.
  • Is thoroughly familiar with the academic freedom and professional responsibility statement and adheres to these policies.
  • Maintains desirable and safe laboratory, shop, and classroom conditions.
  • Maintains knowledge of current UVU technology (i.e. Canvas, MS Teams) via continuous training offered through the Office of Teaching and Learning.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in the subject matter or a closely related area and one year of teaching closely related professional experience. Select SLSS courses require special trainings or certifications for faculty.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
  • Extensive knowledge of subject matter and course content of classes to be taught, appropriate field of study, and instructional strategies and techniques.
  • Skill in effective instructional strategies and techniques.
  • Extensive knowledge of evaluation of instruction, curriculum development, program development and evaluation.
  • Ability to manage instruction, motivate, and evaluate students.
  • Thorough knowledge of counseling and advising techniques.
  • Knowledge of work experience programs (if appropriate for assignment).
  • Skill in public speaking and report writing.
  • Effective human relations skills and communication techniques.
  • Effective interpersonal, problem solving and decision‑making skills.
  • Ability to apply effectively general principles to specific conditions.
  • Ability to follow written and oral procedures and instructions.
