The Department of Art & Design at Utah Valley University invites applications for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor in Drawing/Painting beginning August 2026. We seek a dynamic, inclusive, and collaborative artist‑educator committed to undergraduate teaching, creative practice, and academic service.
The successful candidate will teach a range of drawing and painting courses—from foundational to advanced levels—and demonstrate versatility in teaching both traditional and contemporary approaches, including a range from representational to non‑objective methods. Expertise in teaching some of the following areas is highly desirable: mixed media, figure drawing/painting, printmaking, oil, acrylic, and watercolor. This position also includes mentoring students and curriculum development.
Tenure‑track faculty will maintain an ongoing creative/scholarly/professional agenda and contribute to department, school, and university service. Service may include acting as Area Coordinator for Painting/Drawing/Printmaking on a rotational basis, which involves overseeing adjunct faculty and assisting the department chair in managing the area.

The candidate is expected to demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence, as well as to teaching diverse learners and modeling teaching practices that value students from all backgrounds. - Teaching: Teach undergraduate courses in drawing and painting. Prepare and follow an approved course of study with measurable objectives. Prepare instructional materials such as course outlines, syllabi, exams, audio/visual aids, and other instructional materials as necessary. Instruct, manage and supervise individuals and groups in the classroom and studio by the following methods: demonstration, discussion, visual aids, audio aids, video‑conference, and field trip/community engagement.
Evaluate instruction and learning by means of written, oral, practical, and performance tests. Maintain a student‑oriented and engaged approach to education. Maintain and submit accurate and current reports and records regarding student grades, attendance, accountability, and follow up. - Other Teaching Responsibilities: Establish and maintain office hours and advise students during this time and at other times as needed; assist advisors, department chairperson, faculty, and department staff in maintaining an effective program, including curriculum development. Improve professionally and maintain currency in the courses taught.
- Creative/Scholarly Activity: Maintain an active creative, scholarly, or professional practice.
- Service: Contribute to departmental, school, and university committees and initiatives and perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
- Graduation from an accredited institution with an MFA in Painting, Drawing, or a closely related field.
- College‑level teaching experience.
- Demonstrated ability to teach a broad range of media and conceptual approaches.
- Experience mentoring diverse student populations.
- Administrative or leadership experience in academic settings (e.g., area coordination, budget oversight).
