The Art and Design Department at Utah Valley University invites applicants for a lecturer position in Art History for the 2026-27 academic year beginning August 2026.

Position Announcement

We seek a dynamic, inclusive, student-centered, and collaborative educator committed to undergraduate teaching.

The successful candidate will teach primarily undergraduate survey courses in art history (ARTH 2710 Prehistoric through Gothic Art & ARTH 2720 Renaissance through Contemporary Art), which support the Art History BA and Art & Design programs as well as GE students across the university. Teaching of other courses will be determined by the needs of the area and assigned by the area coordinator and department chair.

Course delivery may include face-to-face, online, and/or livestream.

Summary of Responsibilities
  • Teach courses in the Art & Design Department primarily supporting undergraduate GE offerings in Art History. Responsibilities include planning, preparing, and following approved course of study with measurable objectives for each course taught, and preparing online instructional material as necessary.
  • Instruct, manage, and supervise individuals and groups in classrooms/labs or in online formats using methods such as lectures, demonstrations, discussions, visual aids, and similar.
  • Maintain accurate and current reports and records involving student accountability, attendance, performance, and follow-up.
  • Establish and maintain office hours and advise and mentor students. Assist advisors, department chairperson, faculty, and department staff in maintaining an effective program. Maintain currency in the courses taught.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
  • MA in Art History, or a closely related field, from an accredited institution.
  • Experience teaching in higher education.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Art History, or a closely related field, from an accredited institution.
  • Experience teaching art history in higher education.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach a broad range of media and conceptual approaches.
  • Experience mentoring student populations from a variety of backgrounds.
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of art history from ancient to contemporary periods, including theories and practices.
  • Knowledge in current instructional theory, methods, strategies, and techniques.
  • Knowledge in student management, motivation, and evaluation techniques.
  • Knowledge of current industry practices, including aspects of AI.
Skills
  • Skills in teaching art history and related practices.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to communicate with a team.
  • Skills in interpersonal relationships, problem‑solving, and decision‑making.
Abilities
  • Ability to teach and mentor students at multiple levels.
