Overview
The Department of Dance invites applications for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor of Commercial Dance, beginning August 2026. The successful candidate will conduct undergraduate courses in jazz, hip hop, and tap, support the core curriculum, and contribute to service and scholarly activity.
Responsibilities- Plan, prepare, and implement courses with measurable goals, mentor students, and manage teaching duties.
- Engage in curricular development, committee work, and departmental initiatives.
- Conduct ongoing creative, scholarly, and professional activities in commercial dance.
- M.F.A. or doctorate in dance (or foreign equivalent) from an accredited institution.
- Minimum two years of experience training and educating pre‑professional or professional dancers.
- Evidence of professional experience and sustained commitment to excellence in teaching and service.
- Produced creative work and presented professional writing or research in refereed or other professional venues.

Knowledge
- Deep understanding of commercial dance forms, including jazz, hip hop, and tap.
- Awareness of current trends and professional practices in the commercial dance industry.
- Knowledge of choreography, staging, and performance techniques for commercial and entertainment venues.
- Familiarity with academic program administration, curriculum development, scheduling, and advising.
- Understanding of digital tools and technologies relevant to dance instruction and production.
Skills
- Proficient teaching of jazz, hip hop, and tap across all levels.
- Skilled in choreographing and directing student performances.
- Ability to utilize digital platforms for instruction, choreography, and performance preparation.
- Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Competent in supporting recruitment, academic advising, and program implementation initiatives.
Abilities
- Ability to inspire and prepare students for careers in the commercial dance industry.
- Capacity to lead student companies or ensembles with professionalism and creativity.
- Readiness to take on administrative responsibilities such as scheduling and curriculum oversight.
- Comfort integrating technology into all aspects of dance education.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment.
- Ability to teach face‑to‑face and online courses.
