Job Details

General Notes The Office of the Dean of Students at the University of Texas at Austin is dedicated to creating a transformative campus experience where students develop critical thinking, leadership skills, and a lifelong commitment to positive civic engagement. Guided by our core principles of being student-focused, fostering collaborative innovation, empowering ownership, and embracing strategic efficiency, we strive to support our students both inside and outside the classroom.

Our mission is to develop student leaders, foster involvement, and provide support for all Longhorns, ensuring that every decision and action prioritizes their well-being and development. Join us in fostering a community that values excellence, inclusivity, and the holistic development of our students.

Purpose

The UT Austin Office of the Dean of Students is seeking a Graduate Assistant to support student service programming efforts. The graduate assistant will work on the Volunteerism and Service-Learning team, primarily supporting events, recognition, and resources programming. The Graduate Assistant will also support the Longhorn Volunteer Network, an initiative which will relaunch Give Pulse on the UT campus and help students more easily access and track service opportunities.

While exact duties are adjusted to fit the selected candidate's strengths and experience, this person will be working in partnership with a full-time staff member and a team of student assistants to ensure the successful implementation of all aspects of programming.

Responsibilities
  • Promote usage of Give Pulse across all available communication channels; create strategic partnerships with departments, groups, and colleges to amplify messaging
  • Manage a team of student assistants dedicated to user support, including updating user guides and tutorials, hosting trainings or attending group meetings for trainings, assisting campus and community-based users when they run into roadblocks on Give Pulse or volunteer recruitment, and leading weekly team meetings
  • Conduct tailored Give Pulse information sessions for community partners (nonprofits), campus-based users, subgroup administrators, and occasionally other universities
  • Support community-based organizations looking for volunteers from UT Austin; grow our affiliate partners list
  • Assist in facilitation of the SERVE living and learning community, supporting 30 first year students in service involvement across Austin and getting to know UT Austin
  • Assist in the facilitation and evaluation of training workshops for sponsored programs. Provide support for the VSL's signature programs, development efforts and marketing initiatives, including the UT Volunteer Fair and Tower Awards.
  • Provide logistical support for VSL programs (may include reserving rooms, coordinating workshops/speakers, administering surveys/evaluation tools, and facilitating team building activities, etc.).
  • Attend weekly LVN team meetings, along with regular VSL staff meetings and Dean of Students staff meetings.
  • Support Project Advance Austin - a program of Texas LEAD - connecting with community partners and assisting with administration of academic course for program participants.
Required Qualifications
  • Experience, either as a student leader or as professional, planning and implementing service events or other student-led programs.
  • Professional demeanor.
  • Excellent organization and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work in a team-based structure, but carry out work independently.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must remain in good standing with the university as a Graduate student.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience developing and implementing large-scale student service programs and events.
  • Nonprofit or community organizing experience, specifically in the area of outreach or client/constituent relations.
  • College student advising experience.
