The Department of Mechanical and Civil Engineering ((Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).) invites applications for two (2) tenure-track faculty positions in mechanical engineering to begin August 1, 2026.
The mechanical engineering faculty member develops and teaches undergraduate courses, such as pre-engineering courses, seminar courses, core mechanical engineering courses, laboratory courses, open-ended design courses, and electives in their respective specialty area. The faculty member engages in scholarly activities that contribute to the mission of the university, department, and profession. In addition, the faculty member provides service at the department, college, and university levels.

The Mechanical and Civil Engineering Department offers ABET-accredited bachelor’s degrees in mechanical engineering and in civil engineering, as well as associate’s degrees in pre-engineering. Additionally, the mechanical engineering program is seeking to establish an aerospace engineering emphasis to prepare students to contribute to Utah’s booming aerospace industry.
The Department of Mechanical and Civil Engineering will be commissioning its labs in the new Scott M. Smith Engineering Building in January 2026. Among other labs, the new building includes a composite materials lab, a materials testing lab, a subsonic wind tunnel lab, an energy lab, an indoor drone motion capture lab, controls and vibration labs, and an advanced manufacturing lab.
The department will accept all qualified applications, but is particularly interested in applicants with experience in aerospace engineering applications.

- Instructs, manages, and supervises individuals and groups in classrooms, online, and laboratories, through demonstration, discussion, visual aids, individualized instruction, lectures, and other appropriate methods for educational delivery.
- Plans, prepares, and follows an approved course of study that includes measurable objectives for each course taught. Prepares instructional materials. Evaluates student performance using appropriate testing and grading procedures.
- Engages in scholarly activities, including applied research, and produces scholarly/creative work consistent with disciplinary specialization and the academic goals of the department.
- Serves the department, college, and university by attending departmental meetings, working on committees, and accepting other service appointments.
- Graduation with a Doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field from an ABET-accredited institution
- Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
- Evidence of potential for effective teaching in line with the mission of a large teaching university
- Evidence of potential for effective scholarship in line with the mission of a large teaching university
- Ability and willingness to teach a variety of undergraduate courses.
- Established teaching experience in the field of specialization
- Industry experience in the field of specialization.
- Demonstrated history of successful research involving undergraduate students
- Involvement in applied research projects with undergraduate students.
- Frequent talking, hearing, sitting, walking, and standing.
- Frequent use of fine-hand manipulation is associated with the use of a computer.
- Knowledge and experience in mechanical engineering.
- Familiarity with mechanical engineering BS curricula requirements, especially as it applies to ABET accreditation.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills

- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Effective interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex industrial systems.
