We’re looking for a Sr. Merchant Risk Specialist who brings deep experience in merchant services, payments, or fintech and is ready to operate with true ownership. This role sits at the center of underwriting, ongoing monitoring, and customer-facing risk support — ensuring we protect the business while enabling good merchants to thrive.

You’ll partner directly with our Head of Operations, collaborate heavily with our CX team, and work closely with Product as we modernize and upgrade the native TSYS tooling stack. The ideal candidate is analytical, crisp, and highly observant.

• Own merchant underwriting reviews, onboarding assessments, and ongoing portfolio monitoring.
• Review and interpret KYC/KYB data using native TSYS systems, Trans Union, Plaid, and internal tools.
• Identify patterns, risks, anomalies, and signals — turning high-volume data into clear decisions.
• Manage escalations and exceptions with clarity and speed.
• Engage directly with customers on risk-related issues to drive single-touch resolution when possible.
• Work cross-functionally with CX to close loops quickly and deliver consistent, high-trust experiences.
• Partner with Product to inform improvements to risk tooling and dashboards — including future-state enhancements to native systems.
• Drive a strong compliance posture across the merchant lifecycle while helping good merchants move forward fast.
• Uphold and model pmtbox’s values: ownership, clarity, consistency, speed, and accountability.

• 5–10+ years in payments, merchant services, underwriting, risk, or related fintech environments.
• Strong analytical rigor with exceptional pattern-recognition instincts.
• Deep familiarity with merchant risk signals, underwriting principles, and monitoring best practices.
• Ability to work independently and make sound, well-reasoned decisions in ambiguous situations.
• Comfortable engaging directly with customers on sensitive risk topics with professionalism and clarity.
• A high-ownership mindset — you protect the portfolio like it’s your own.
• The ability to translate real-world risk learnings into actionable product insights.
• Crisp communication, strong judgement, and calm execution under pressure.

pmtbox functions primarily in-office in Orem, UT. We value focus, clarity, and collaboration — and our in-office rhythm supports that. That said, for exceptional engineers, we’re open to evaluating remote applications.
