Franchise Staff Accountant

Sonesta International Hotels is seeking a highly organized and detail‑oriented Franchise Staff Accountant to support our Franchise Division. The successful candidate will perform daily accounting activities, manage multi‑entity billing, and prepare accurate general ledger journal entries while collaborating closely with the Franchise Accounting Manager and Director.

Job Description Summary

The Franchise Staff Accountant is an individual contributor responsible for accurate, timely billing and reporting across multiple entities. This role supports departmental objectives by executing internal controls, preparing journal entries, and providing audit support.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepare monthly billing invoices for assigned entities in accordance with franchise contracts.
  • Document and record contract amendments, additions, and termination of agreements to ensure accurate billing.
  • Review new franchise agreements and advise on appropriate accounting treatment for billing purposes.
  • Execute and adhere to internal controls and accounting procedures.
  • Prepare and post journal entries throughout the month and during month‑end close for corrections or adjustments to billing invoices.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing documentation and general accounting guidance on sample selections.
  • Partner with franchisees to investigate and resolve material variances.
  • Collaborate with Accounts Receivable to ensure timely billing and accurate aging reports.
  • Assist the Franchise Accounting Manager or Director with ad‑hoc requests and special projects.
  • Provide input to process design and drive continuous process improvement with a focus on standardization, efficiency, and quality.
Key Competencies Required

    • Significant experience with billing & revenue accounting.
    • Knowledge of GAAP with ability to research and recommend appropriate actions.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business, or equivalent work experience.
  • 2+ years of high‑volume multi‑entity billing experience (Franchise agreement related experience preferred).
  • 2+ years of general accounting experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficient fluency in Spanish (written/spoken).
  • Experience coaching or mentoring staff on billing activities.
  • Yardi experience.
Additional Skills
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including organizing, manipulating, and analyzing large data sets.
  • Strong PC proficiency and ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Leverage technology to improve processes and efficiencies.
  • Proactive communication with franchisees, operations teams, and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent problem‑solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high‑quality work.
  • Ability to process numerical data accurately.

Pay Range

$26 – $28 per hour (base pay may vary).
