Position Summary
The Office of the Attorney General in Orlando is seeking a STAFF ASSISTANT – SES (Position Number ) to serve as a receptionist and telephone operator. The successful applicant will manage a multi‑line phone system, respond to public inquiries concerning the agency and state government, schedule and update the phone extension list, and provide general clerical support to the staff. Good computer skills, excellent verbal skills, people skills, and experience managing a multi‑line phone system are required.
Starting salary is commensurate with training and experience.
- Three years of secretarial or clerical work experience, or
- A high school diploma or its equivalent and one year of secretarial or administrative experience.
- College education from an accredited institution can substitute at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours for each year of the required work experience, or
- Vocational or technical training in an area of secretarial science or office/business studies can substitute at the rate of 720 classroom hours for each year of the required work experience.
- Receive all calls directed to the Orlando Office of the Attorney General and direct incoming calls to their proper destination.
- Answer incoming telephone calls within three rings.
- Communicate with the public and the staff on behalf of the Office, including greeting clients and visitors and responding to requests for data.
- Take messages for all employees, input messages into the computer, and answer telephone inquiries that do not require legal conclusions or advice.
- Refer callers and government officials to appropriate state or federal agencies when necessary.
- Log in, mail out, date stamp, sort, and distribute mail; update the phone extension list and phone programming as needed.
- Perform miscellaneous clerical assignments and assist any staff with special assignments as directed by supervisor.
- Extended hours may be required to ensure telephone coverage or to complete assigned projects.
