Position Summary:

Brock Built Development is currently seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Grading Foreman with a strong drive to create a positive work environment to coordinate operations and oversee workers for our land development grading crew. Equipment will be used to clear, demo, excavate, and move earth matter for both residential and commercial earth work jobs. As the point of reference of both workers and supervisors, you will be a key person for the completion of a project.

A Grading Foreman has a solid background in the field. The Foreman must be able to operate various pieces of equipment to establish rough and finish grades, read civil drawings and grade stakes, and be familiar with GPS operating equipment. This job may entail assisting pipe crews periodically. Your leadership skills and extensive experience have earned you the ability to direct the work of others and make quick decisions.

You must be well organized and favor safety above everything else.

Job Functions:

  • Coordinate tasks according to priorities and plans.
  • Monitor attendance of crew.
  • Coordinate with Superintendents, Project Managers, Geotech's, Inspectors, and subcontractors.
  • Allocate general and daily responsibilities.
  • Supervise and train workers and tradespeople.
  • Guarantee all safety precautions and quality standards are met.
  • Properly follow company and OSHA safety procedures. Bring problems to the attention of your manager.
  • Supervise and operate machinery and equipment safely and effectively.
  • Perform daily maintenance, cleaning, and safety inspections of equipment.
  • Resolve problems when they arise.
  • Ensure both drivers and operators are performing routine inspections and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment and refer defects or needed repairs to the shop; keep equipment/trucks clean and in a professional manner.

Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

:

  • Ability to perform manual labor as necessary.
  • Basic knowledge of soil and base construction, earthwork quality control test methods.
  • Operate with a sense of urgency.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate dozers, skid steers, excavators, and track loaders.

Job Qualifications:

  • OSHA 10 hour preferred.
  • A minimum of 8 years' experience as a Grading Foreman.
  • Must be familiar with GPS grading systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction procedures, equipment, and OSHA principles.
  • Ability to read drawings, plans, blueprints, and grade stakes.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
  • Solid math and problem-solving skills/abilities.
  • Ability to provide effective communication and reporting.
  • Maintain valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Days and hours of work vary based on job size and job location (40-55 hours weekly). Evening and weekend work is required as job duties demand.
  • Must successfully pass pre-employment (post offer) drug screen.

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, and climb all day.
  • Able to lift up to 90 pounds.
  • Requires the following specific types of vision: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Able to work with moving mechanical parts, high/precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic/caustic chemicals.
  • Able to work in high, precarious places as well as in extreme heat and extreme cold.
  • Able to work in moderate to loud work environment.
