The role at WKMG-TV News 6 is perfect for you if you can balance fact‑based reporting and creative storytelling with a relentless drive to push, dig, uncover and ask the tough but fair questions that hold leaders and stakeholders accountable.
Position OverviewOur next News 6 Investigator will be joining a team of two Investigative Reporters, an experienced Producer, and a veteran broadcast journalist who will serve as your investigative coach. What you bring to the role is a highly competitive nature, driven to uncover lead stories every week and not get scooped. You are skilled in developing trust rapidly with viewers and sources, and are comfortable with a fast‑changing workday.
This role requires considerable experience analyzing complex documents, expert record‑requesting, and research skills needed to build balanced reports. You will regularly partner with experienced photojournalists, but must also be able to shoot, edit, and provide behind‑the‑scenes footage on your own. You are tech‑savvy, incorporating new technology, equipment, and AI into your workflows, and possess a strong on‑camera delivery that is clear, conversational, and commanding.
- Turn multiple stories every week.
- Pitch investigative stories from sources vetted in advance.
- Deliver in‑depth perspective reporting that supports team coverage on major news of the day.
- Produce digital articles, videos, vertical videos, and other visuals/graphics that drive engagement.
- Report stories that are fair, balanced, and use process language when appropriate.
- Possess strong interviewing skills, comfortable asking tough questions in one‑on‑one settings or high‑pressure news conferences.
- Monitor News 6 viewer tiplines and validate claims.
- Synthesize complex documents and break them down into conversational terms.
- Execute creative storytelling stand‑ups and teases that include movement.
- Create good solutions for problems or when plans change.
- Partner productively with platform producers and newsroom leaders.
- Have experience partnering with a photojournalist.
- Several years of successful reporting in two television markets (at least one medium or high‑volume market) preferred.
- Prior experience working as an Investigative Reporter in local news.
- Knowledge of Florida laws, including the state's broad Sunshine Laws.
- Demonstrates a detailed and well‑organized personal process to track, attribute, and analyze information and interviews.
- A college degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field is preferred.
- Proficient in multiple newsroom producing and editing systems, social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, You Tube), and verified internet search and research techniques and databases.
- Work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as news‑and‑business‑needs require.
- Have a valid driver's license with a safety record acceptable to Graham Media Group.
