Assistant Professor or Associate Professor, Sustainable Energy Systems

Position Summary

Assistant Professor (or Associate Professor) – Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Center for Advanced Turbo machinery and Energy Research (CATER). 9‑month full‑time appointment, tenure‑track for assistant professor or tenured for associate professor.

Start date:

August 8, 2026.

• Conduct high‑impact research in rotor dynamics, vibration, and high‑speed rotor bearings.
• Develop a funded and sustainable research program and strengthen new collaborations and partnership paradigms.
• Launch and scale research and business ventures that address rapid and disruptive innovation in sustainable energy systems.
• Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to bring together campus efforts in energy systems research.

• Earned doctoral degree or foreign equivalent in mechanical or aerospace engineering from an accredited institution by appointment.
• Demonstrated record of high‑impact research in related areas.
• For associate professor appointments, record of research, teaching, and service commensurate with a tenured appointment at that rank.

• Proven track record of securing externally funded research grants in relevant disciplines.
• Extensive experience as a full‑time researcher in national laboratories, industry, or large interdisciplinary research centers, demonstrating applied research expertise and collaborative engagement.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams, including leadership roles in cross‑functional research initiatives.
• Significant post‑doctoral research experience with meaningful contributions to the field.
