Structural Engineer – Bridge/Transportation
VHB’s structural engineering group plays a vital role in developing and enhancing connectivity through infrastructure projects such as complex bridge and interchange designs, rehabilitation and inspection, pedestrian walkways, and transit stations. This diverse range of structural engineering services helps improve mobility for the traveling public. VHB is growing its southeastern region and is looking for a Structural Engineer to join our award‑winning firm whose dynamic, innovative environment leads the industry with cutting‑edge model‑based bridge design in Florida, Georgia, and along the east coast.
Responsibilities- Perform structural modeling, design, and oversight for bridge and other transportation infrastructure projects
- Prepare construction documents, including plans, specifications, estimates and calculation packages
- Provide technical support and mentorship to structural engineering staff
- Perform quality assurance reviews of project construction documents, engineering reports, etc.
- Assist in preparation of qualification packages, proposals and/or contracts involving technical approach, costs, and scheduling
- Provide project management support
- Review fabrication drawings and provide construction plan reviews
- Self‑motivated with excellent attention to detail and quality
- Strong technical skills in bridge/structural design and critical thinking
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills
- Effective and comfortable in a highly collaborative team environment
- Excellent verbal presentation and technical writing skills
- Experience with and motivation to lead and mentor junior staff
- Model‑based design experience
- Project management skills
- 3–5 years of structural bridge design experience (LRFD)
- B.S. in Civil Engineering required; emphasis in Structures preferred
- EIT certification required; PE license or ability to obtain within 6 months preferred
- Project experience with FDOT preferred
- Experience completing engineering studies, design reports, compiling contract documents and developing contract plans in conformity with accepted engineering standards and procedures including AASHTO, FDOT, local municipalities/counties, and other state DOTs
- Strong familiarity with structural engineering software such as Mathcad, AASHTOWare, FB-Multi Pier, Midas Civil, ATLAS, STAAD Pro, LARSA 4D, MDX, SP Column, Merlin
DASH, FDOT Structures Design Programs, etc. - Model‑based design experience is a strong plus:
- Bentley Open Bridge and Open Roads
- AutoCAD Civil 3D and Revit/Infraworks/Inventor
