the Role

Here’s how a Design Manager for our Nassal office contributes to our team:

Responsibilities
  • Manages the production of complex technical shop drawings generated from specifications, concepts, preliminary sketches, and schematics provided by the client, as needed.
  • Develops and maintains schedules and task durations for all phases of the project.
  • Implements the QA/QC process for all drawings and specifications to ensure overall accuracy and quality standards are met.
  • Promotes design studio standards and best practices throughout the design process.
  • Leads team meetings to coordinate design requirements, options, and ideas for building the project.
  • Collaborates with project teams to identify areas of risk and develop appropriate mitigation plans.
  • Oversees revisions of designs and plans to comply with modified specifications made during actual construction, resulting in as‑built drawings.
  • Collaborates with other disciplines and personnel to provide documentation/drawing releases for submittal reviews and approval.
  • Contributes to cost projection forecasts.
  • Provides project staffing updates and addresses any workforce concerns.
Qualifications
  • Associates' or Bachelor's degree in design, architecture, engineering, construction, or a related discipline.
  • 7 years of progressive experience in a production environment preferred.
  • 3 years of experience in a supervisory role preferred.
Required Skills
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence and present ideas and content that contribute to the department’s strategic priorities.
  • Ability to provide guidance to the district, offer strategic counsel, and influence decisions at the project level.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing others and resolving staffing issues at the project level.
  • Intermediate knowledge of the construction process and the various components involved at each stage of construction.
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD 2D & 3D, Rhino, Revit, and/or similar software.
  • Advanced proficiency in technical drawings and constructability, 3D modeling, Quality Assurance & Quality Control practices, and BIM coordination.
  • Ability to apply design, architectural, and/or engineering knowledge and practices dependably and efficiently.
  • Demonstrates a high level of critical thinking and sound decision‑making skills; ability to identify and mitigate risks for the project.
  • Strong ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders and decision makers.
  • Intermediate skills using Microsoft Office Suite and other applicable systems.
