Role Overview

The Field Service Engineer II role is a mid‑level field position that provides engineering support for scheduled and emergent maintenance activities at customer power generation sites across the Americas. This position applies field service engineering techniques and procedures in the installation, modification, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of gas turbines, steam turbines, valves, generators, and associated auxiliary equipment. Individuals holding this role are carefully dispatchable Field Service Engineers, which will require heavy domestic and international travel both during outage seasons and in support of customer meetings and other initiatives during the off‑season.

Key Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate Mitsubishi Power core competencies: action‑oriented, change champion, customer‑focused, committed to developing self and others, and strong sense of ownership.
  • Lead and direct on‑site work for the installation, repair, analysis, and operation of customer turbo machinery equipment, including gas and steam turbines, generators, exciters, and auxiliary systems.
  • Serve as a floor engineer during minor and major turbine outages on OEM and non‑OEM equipment, making component‑level technical decisions based on established engineering practices.
  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise outage maintenance activities, including directing supervisors, specialists, subcontractors, and assigning work to site personnel.
  • Provide technical field expertise and turbine interface support to customers, management, engineers, and suppliers; resolve technical and scope‑related issues.
  • Interface directly with customer personnel to coordinate work execution, communicate progress, and ensure customer expectations are met.
  • Interpret and apply drawings, work scopes, schedules, and technical documentation to support outage execution, change management, and closeout.
  • Perform component‑level outage planning, including vendor coordination, work package development, scheduling, and identification and tracking of extra work.
  • Prepare, review, and submit accurate field service documentation and reports, including status updates, turnover packages, expense reports, and component‑level outage reports.
  • Provide on‑the‑job training, mentoring, and technical guidance to team members while supporting departmental and company objectives.
  • Heavy overnight travel (at least 70%) by land and/or air.
  • Able to work long hours for long periods of time.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology from a four‑year college or university; or a combination of education and experience equaling 10 years of experience and leadership in power plant, gas turbine, steam turbine, or operations and maintenance.
  • Experience in interpreting technical drawings and applying applicable industry codes/standards is a plus.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Proficiency with project management tools, databases, spreadsheets, Word, and technical software.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and a valid passport; maintaining good status.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
