Role OverviewThe Specialty Services Mechanical Engineer I supports turbine outage execution by applying mechanical engineering techniques related to the installation, inspection, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of steam and gas turbines, valves, generators, and auxiliary equipment. This role collaborates with internal teams and customer personnel, interprets technical documentation, and ensures safe and efficient field operations. The position requires strong technical aptitude, communication skills, and the ability to work in a demanding field environment with extensive travel and extended work hours.
Key Responsibilities- Demonstrates Mitsubishi Power core competencies: action-oriented, change champion, customer-focused, committed to developing self and others, and strong sense of ownership.
- Provide on-site support for the repair, analysis, and operation of customer equipment, including steam turbines, gas turbines, generators, and auxiliary systems.
- Demonstrate basic understanding of welding processes including TIG, MIG, and SMAW as well as basic machining operations including lathes, knee-mills, and boring bars.
- Understand fundamental engineering concepts, industry practices, and procedures related to turbine outage maintenance.
- Interpret and apply drawings, field procedures, work scopes, and technical documentation.
- Support turbine outage maintenance and inspections (OEM and non-OEM) as a floor engineer, under supervision.
- Prepare accurate and timely field service documentation, including status reports, timesheets, evaluations, turnover packages, expense reports, and technical records.
- Assist in outage planning activities, including vendor coordination and preparation of technical documents.
- Develop and submit clear reports detailing conditions, required actions, and results.
- Must be able to read and interpret schedules using Microsoft Project scheduling software.
- Must be able to read and understand component work breakdown structures and work packages.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and SharePoint.
- Promote a culture of “Zero Incidents” in all Mitsubishi Power and subcontractor work scopes.
- Ensure workmanship quality and customer service meet Mitsubishi Power standards and customer expectations.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, reports, and risk assessments.
- Consistently follow all safety practices, procedures, and protocols.
- Heavy overnight travel (at least 70%) by land and/or air is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Ability to read technical documents and prepare clear reports.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem‑solving skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and project management tools.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Valid driver’s license and passport.

The role requires regular standing, walking, bending, talking, and hearing, with occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds and periodic lifting of up to 50 pounds.
