Position: Assistant Project Manager (Cost/Scheduling/Document Control)

Overview

Mas Tec Civil is hiring an Assistant Project Manager specializing in cost/scheduling/document control to join our growing team in Orlando, FL on a heavy civil project!

The Assistant Project Manager supports the successful delivery of a heavy civil roadway project by managing project documentation, assisting with cost control, and supporting schedule development and maintenance. Works closely with Project Manager, field, subcontractors, designers, and owners to ensure the project is executed safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with contract requirements.

Mas Tec's Clean Energy and Infrastructure Group (CE&I) is a $4 billion annual revenue business unit that provides construction services for industrial facilities; building products manufacturers, power generation facilities, manufacturing plants; solar, wind, and thermal energy plants; buildings, and infrastructure.

Responsibilities

Document Control and Project Administration:

  • Establish, maintain, and enforce project document control systems in accordance with company and owner requirements.
  • Manage incoming and outgoing correspondence; including RFIs, submittals, transmittals, meeting minutes, and notices.
  • Track submittal and RFI logs ensuring timely review, response, and distribution.
  • Maintain current contract documents, drawings, specifications, and revisions.
  • Support preparation and documentation of change orders and claims.
  • Assist with contract compliance, reporting requirements, and project closeout documentation.

Scheduling:

  • Assists in developing and maintaining the project schedule using scheduling software.
  • Update schedules with progress, production quantities, and field input.
  • Track critical path activities and identify potential schedule impacts or delays.
  • Support preparation of look‑ahead schedules and coordinate with field operations team.
  • Assist in schedule analysis for change orders, time impacts, and delay documentation.

Cost Control:

  • Assist with project budget setup, cost coding, and cost tracking.
  • Track commitments, subcontract agreements, purchase orders, and invoices.
  • Support monthly cost forecasting, cash flow projections, and cost-to-complete updates.
  • Assist in evaluating change order pricing and maintaining change management logs.
  • Support documentation for owner billing and progress payment applications.

The Assistant Project Manager is responsible for the project's budget and discusses variances noted with the Estimator. They shall understand the pay item estimate work sheets and communicate this information to the supervisor, evaluate cost effectiveness of procedures, and replace ineffective ones. Necessary measures are taken to avoid unplanned occurrences that may increase cost such as accidents, injuries, and equipment abuse.

Change orders and/or claims are properly documented, prepared and submitted to the Owner in a timely manner. Budget changes and cost transfers are reviewed and approved. Monthly Project Status Reports accompany monthly cost reports, reflecting actual field performance with accurate quantities and projections.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management
  • Minimum five years' experience in the heavy construction industry
  • Must have bridge, roadwork, and DOT experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Demonstrated understanding of construction means and methods associated with the heavy construction industry
  • Strong team leadership and project management skills
  • Experience in leading multi‑disciplined teams
  • Ability to direct the work of subcontractors to achieve project goals
