Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of estimators, providing guidance, training, and support throughout the estimation process. Ensure the team maintains high standards of accuracy and efficiency in preparing estimates.
- Oversee and participate in the preparation of detailed cost estimates for large, complex roadway projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs. Ensure estimates align with project specifications and industry standards.
- Develop and implement bid strategies for heavy civil roadway projects. Review and approve all estimates and proposals before submission to clients. Work closely with project managers and engineers to ensure the estimates align with project requirements and constraints.
- Lead the team in analyzing project plans, drawings, and specifications to determine scope, labor, and material needs. Ensure the team conducts thorough reviews and identifies potential project risks and cost-saving opportunities.
- Oversee and verify the completion of accurate quantity takeoffs, assessing roadway grading, drainage, paving, utilities, and other infrastructure components. Participate in site evaluations to understand site-specific conditions and challenges.
- Manage relationships with key subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors, ensuring that pricing, procurement, and delivery schedules meet project needs. Negotiate contracts and assess supplier capabilities to secure competitive pricing.
- Collaborate with project management teams to develop project budgets, track costs, and provide ongoing cost analysis throughout the project lifecycle. Identify deviations from the estimate and implement corrective actions to maintain financial control.
- Identify, assess, and proactively address potential risks related to cost, scope, and schedule. Recommend solutions for mitigating risks and minimizing cost overruns.
- Maintain accurate and organized records of all estimates, proposals, and bid documents. Provide clear and concise reporting to senior management, project teams, and clients on estimate progress and project cost performance.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, project teams, and external stakeholders. Represent the company in meetings and negotiations with clients and contractors, ensuring effective communication and alignment with project goals.
- Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and new technologies. Promote a culture of continuous improvement within the estimating team and the broader organization.
