The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in Orlando, FL, responsible for the mechanical design and development of industrial laser processing equipment and related systems. This role involves creating and refining mechanical concepts, producing detailed CAD models and drawings, and performing engineering calculations to ensure structural integrity, reliability, and manufacturability. The engineer collaborates closely with cross-functional teams in electrical engineering, optics, manufacturing, and product management to support prototype builds, testing, and design validation.
Daily responsibilities include troubleshooting design issues, driving design improvements based on test data and customer feedback, and preparing documentation and specifications for production. The role also contributes to continuous improvement initiatives, supports new product introductions, and mentors less-experienced engineers in best practices for mechanical design and product development.
- Strong foundation in Mechanical Engineering, with the ability to apply engineering principles to complex industrial equipment and laser systems.
- Proficiency in Design Engineering and Product Design, including concept development, detailed design, and design-for-manufacture considerations.
- Hands-on experience in Machine Design, covering mechanisms, structural components, motion systems, and assemblies for high-vibration and harsh environments.
- Advanced skills in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools (e.g., Solid Works, Autodesk Inventor, or similar) for 3D modeling, drawings, and engineering documentation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field; advanced degree or professional certification is a plus.
- Experience designing industrial equipment, automation systems, or laser-based machinery is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials selection, tolerance analysis, and relevant industry standards and safety requirements.
- Ability to lead projects, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and communicate technical information clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work on-site in a fast-paced, innovative engineering environment.
