The Environmental Services Technician V is responsible for executing the daily duties required to establish and maintain a safe, clean, and healing environment. The role involves performing duties in accordance with established organizational policies and procedures for providing a safe environment, achieved through cleaning, disinfection, and quality assurance to reduce harmful pathogens for the benefit of patients, visitors, and staff.
Responsibilities- Respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers using appropriate engagement techniques.
- Perform all types of floor care and maintenance throughout the facility, including hard surfaces and carpeting.
- Adhere to all organizational safety, risk management and infection control standards while promoting a culture of safety.
- Clean and perform routine maintenance on floor equipment; request assistance from plant operations and maintenance as needed.
- Maintain accurate floor care logs and checklists.
- Mix chemicals according to instructions.
- Understand which pads, brushes, and screens to use for each flooring job.
- Operate all equipment with care and according to facility and manufacturer safety standards and procedures.
- Maintain key log for equipment sign‑in/out.
- Use communication devices properly.
- Participate in departmental performance improvement initiatives, including those to improve HCAHPS scores related to hospital cleanliness and "always quiet."
- Perform project work and specialty tasks according to facility needs, such as conference room set‑up/dismantle and cleaning of stairwells and elevators.
- Remove waste and transport to appropriate disposal area while identifying proper waste stream (e.g., regulated medical, recycle, solid, hazardous).
- Follow infection prevention practices, including proper cleaning process, hand hygiene, standard & isolation precautions and proper use of PPE.
- Recognize and adhere to patient privacy requirements (HIPAA).
- Operate UV disinfection machine as needed or according to policy.
- Complete other assigned tasks by EVS Leadership.
- Maintain reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.
- Maintain compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
- Identify and utilize appropriate resources to ensure problems or concerns are followed through and resolved.
- Adhere to all Standards of Precaution, SDS and Hand Hygiene directives.
- Complete all mandatory training as designated and required.
- Attend services/meetings as required.
- Participate in departmental quality assurance and improvement activities as appropriate.
- Practice critical thinking skills, including prioritization of duties and immediate needs/requests (Stat cleans).
- Demonstrate knowledge of facility safety requirements.
- Demonstrate ability to operate and properly maintain all EVS tools and equipment needed to clean and disinfect the environment.
- Assist in onboarding new Environmental Services Technicians I–V as requested.
- Report unsafe situations and submit Engineering Service Requests for repair.
Education/Training
High School Diploma or GED required.
Licensure/Certification
- Certified Health Care Environmental Services Technician (CHEST) preferred.
- Certified Surgical Cleaning Technician (CSCT), preferred.
- DOT Certificate mandatory.
- Completed a Comprehensive Floor Care Program.
Experience
- 4 or more years Environmental Services Experience.
- Previous floor/carpet care maintenance experience required.
- 4 or more years’ experience in Floor care work.
