Respiratory Therapist Assistant (Student)

Orlando Regional Medical Center (ORMC) – Orlando, FL

Part Time (24 hours)

The Respiratory Therapist Assistant is responsible for performing multiple duties that require expertise in the assembly, transport, disinfection, calibration and troubleshooting of respiratory related equipment. The Respiratory Assistant works under the direction of a Licensed Respiratory Therapist and may assist in training new Respiratory Therapy Assistants or Student Respiratory Therapists on routine therapy assistant functions.

• Maintain the supply of medical gas cylinders in the respiratory department and related areas.
• Restock supplies, retrieve equipment, and re-process equipment as necessary.
• Maintain appropriate levels of equipment in the various respiratory care work areas.
• Perform routine assembly, maintenance, cleaning, and calibration of various types of respiratory care equipment.
• Follow standard precautions and adhere to hand hygiene and PPE procedures.
• Report equipment malfunctions to appropriate personnel.
• Transport equipment between in‑patient units and procedure areas as directed by a Respiratory Therapist.
• Maintain a clean and safe environment.
• Attend and participate in staff meetings/summits.
• Complete required education and training as needed.
• Maintain regularly punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
• Maintain compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
• Use time and resources efficiently.
• Perform all other assigned duties.

• Respiratory Care student currently enrolled in an accredited Associate of Science in Respiratory Care or Cardiopulmonary Sciences pre‑licensure program at a college or university affiliated with the organization.
• Proof of continued enrollment in accredited pre-licensure, professional respiratory care program with no break in enrollment.

• Maintain current BLS/Healthcare provider certification.
• Obtain license as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the State of Florida Department of Health within three months post‑graduation.

Concurrent enrollment in an Associate of Science in Respiratory Care or Cardiopulmonary Sciences pre‑licensure program, not to exceed three months post‑graduation.
