Medical Billing & Collections Specialist – HYBRID

Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Contact payers, patients, or store as appropriate.
- Document all collections activity in IMBS patient collections notes, on the daily worksheet, and send the completed sheet to the Collections Supervisor.
- Document work performed/action taken on AR Aging Report and/or Over/Under Report.
- Process all payer appeal requests within the required timeline.
- Process approved adjustments, doctor and insurance changes, and financial assistance applications.
- Process hospice/nursing home delivery tickets and rejections/denials to determine if the claim requires refiling or an appeal.
- Review amounts on the over/under report and patient information in IMBS to determine reasons for unpaid claims and whether additional approval is required.
- Sort and log incoming correspondence.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Employment contingencies: background investigation, drug screen, valid driver’s license with clean record (when applicable).
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- One to three years of related prior work experience in a team‑oriented environment.
- Experience in the medical field and administrative record management.
- Strong customer service background.
- Effective communication in English, both oral and written, with physicians, staff, and patients.
- Helpful, knowledgeable, polite, and maintaining a positive attitude.
- Interpret a variety of instructions across communication mediums.
- Knowledge of Durable Medical Equipment (DME) or Home Medical Equipment (HME).
- Knowledge of insurance policies and requirements.
- Knowledge of medical billing practices and reimbursement.
- Maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion with sensitive information.
- Multi‑task with attention to detail.
- Accurately perform basic arithmetic calculations.
- Self‑motivation, organized, time‑management, and deductive problem‑solving skills.
- Work independently and as part of a team.
