Job Description
- The Phlebotomist III – Floater represents the face of the organization to patients as part of their routine healthcare or diagnostic needs.
- This role is responsible for collecting quality blood samples and preparing specimens for laboratory testing while following established practices and procedures.
- The Phlebotomist III – Floater interacts directly with patients, creating an atmosphere of trust and confidence by explaining procedures and performing blood draws in a skillful, safe, and accurate manner.
- The role demonstrates leadership behaviors while focusing on process excellence, confidentiality, and accuracy of patient information.
- Assignments may include a doctor’s office, patient service center, or multiple locations based on business needs.
- Ability to provide quality, error-free work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently with minimal on-site supervision.
- Excellent phlebotomy skills, including pediatric and geriatric collections.
- Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, on-call shifts, and overtime based on staffing needs.
- Commitment to policies and procedures related to professional conduct, safety, and confidentiality.
- Ability to make decisions based on established procedures and exercise good judgment.
- Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license, if applicable.
- Ability to travel and work flexible hours across multiple locations with minimal notice.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-volume environment.
- Strong customer focus with clear, open, and professional communication skills.
- Three to five years of phlebotomy experience required, including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.
- Minimum of two years of experience in a patient service center environment preferred.
- Customer service experience in a retail or service environment preferred.
- Keyboarding and data entry experience.
- Perform daily activities accurately and on time under the direction of a supervisor.
- Maintain a safe and professional work environment.
- Perform forensic and clinical specimen collection and processing duties following established procedures.
- Verify patient identification and specimen labeling in the patient’s presence.
- Maintain required records and documentation.
- Demonstrate organizational commitment and promote a positive image with patients, clients, employees, and the public.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Medical assistant or paramedic training preferred.
- Phlebotomy certification preferred.
