Job Description
University Behavioral Center of Orlando, a subsidiary of Universal Health Services, Inc. (UHS), is committed to providing intensive mental health services to children, adolescents and adults as well as detox and substance abuse programs for adults. Our mental health facility provides safe and effective inpatient treatment to assist individuals in leading more productive and fulfilling lives. The facility is located on a beautiful 14-acre campus in Orlando, Florida, and includes 112 licensed beds.
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Psychiatric Technician to join our healthcare team at University Behavioral Center. The ideal candidate will possess strong understanding of patient care practices under the direction of a Registered Nurse. The candidate will be committed to providing high-quality care to psychiatric patients. This role involves monitoring our patients and facilitating group activities in our units.
The individual will be working closely with patients experiencing psychiatric disorders, ensuring their safety, comfort, and well-being while promoting recovery and rehabilitation. Previous experience working directly with patients in a psychiatric facility or rehabilitation program is highly preferred.
- Works under the direct supervision of the Charge Nurse or Milieu Manager to provide clerical and patient care activities in the treatment and care of patients with psychiatric and substance abuse conditions.
- Manages behavioral problems through patient observation and de-escalating techniques.
- Facilitates education and activity groups.
- Actively participates as a member of the treatment team and performs other duties as assigned.
- High school graduation. Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Current CPR or BLS certification.
- Must have at least one year of experience working in an inpatient hospital setting with patients aged 5-65yrs+.
- Work hours:
12‑hour shifts; day or night shift available; rotating weekend
- Experience with behavioral health patients is preferred.
- Knowledge of patient care principles is beneficial.
- Competence in taking vital signs accurately.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
- Strong critical thinking and reasoning skills.
