This is an as Needed Part-Time Essential Services Position. You will work day and/or night shifts, including weekends and holidays. The position is non-exempt and eligible for overtime.

Job Summary

Our linguists perform real‑time transcriptions of sensitive material from Spanish (Caribbean Dialects – Puerto Rican and Dominican) to English. They collect, analyze, identify, and decode colloquialisms and slang terms; extract pertinent information and communicate it to law enforcement agents. The linguists transcribe source documents and recordings from storage media including audio cassettes, videocassettes, or digital media.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities
  • Listen to oral and written intercepts or pre‑recorded communications in Spanish and provide verbal and written synopsis and transcriptions.
  • Relate all pertinent information to the client during live projects.
  • Contribute to a master‑list of slang words and codes for the duration of the project/case.
  • Maintain a voice library for the duration of the project.
  • Transcribe and translate pertinent calls and documents as assigned by supervisor.
  • Produce court‑ready transcriptions of pertinent calls, chats, and documents following required format.
  • Use reference tools created during the project.
  • Transcribe a minimum of 16 minutes of recorded conversation in an 8‑hour day.
  • Operate specialized software equipment (JSI voice box, Pen‑link, Comverse, etc.) at assigned site.
  • Maintain daily log of productivity.
  • Perform related duties as assigned within scope of practice.
Minimum Qualifications & Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree and 3 years experience in a professional setting OR Associate degree and 5 years experience OR High School Diploma and 7 years experience.
  • At least 1 year of transcription experience in the required language.
  • Subject to a government background investigation and eligibility for classified information.
  • U.S. Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident.
  • Knowledge of source language colloquial terms and expressions.
  • Knowledgeable in SMS language, social media, and Webchat.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills in Spanish, including correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Score 3 or better on a third‑party Language Assessment (Listening/Speaking/Reading/Writing) in English.
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to work under pressure, in a fast‑paced environment, and communicate effectively with management and law enforcement.
  • Strong time‑management, prioritization, and teamwork skills.
  • Technical direction and feedback acceptance from various sources.
  • Must type 45 words per minute.
Clearance

Applicants may be required to obtain/maintain a security clearance and satisfy other background investigation, medical, and drug screening requirements.

  • Ability to obtain/maintain a Security Clearance.
  • Favorable credit check for all cleared positions.
  • Successful completion of background investigation, medical, and drug screen.
  • U.S. Citizen.
  • Permanent Resident who has lived in the U.S. for the past 3 of 5 years.
Physical Requirements /Working Conditions
  • Standing/Walking/Mobility:
    Must attend meetings.
  • Climbing/Stooping/Kneeling: 0%‑10% of the time.
  • Lifting/Pulling/Pushing: 0%‑10% of the time.
  • Fingering/Grasping/Feeling:
    Must write, type, and use telephone system 100% of the time.
  • Sitting:
    Prolonged periods monitoring live or taped calls. Ability to leave desk may be restricted during live monitoring and translating of calls.
