Role OverviewThe Machinist will set up and operate CNC and/or manual machines. They read and interpret blueprints, planning sheets, sketches, and technical data to determine tooling, setup procedures, control settings, machining methods, and sequences. The role multitasks, runs multiple machines simultaneously, and maximizes productivity per established standards.
Key Responsibilities- Demonstrate action‑oriented, change‑champion, customer‑focused, development, and ownership competencies.
- Read, interpret, and perform all operations per drawings and work instructions.
- General knowledge of all other shop processes.
- Multi‑task in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment with minimal supervision.
- Perform TPMs on equipment.
- Assist Engineering on “First Run / Prove Out” programs.
- Make offset adjustments to correct out‑of‑tolerance conditions.
- Verify fixture setup meets acceptable quality standards.
- Calculate and set machine controls to position spindle relative to part and regulate factors such as cutting depth, speed, feed, and coolant flow.
- Operate manual or CNC machines where applicable.
- High school diploma or equivalent plus at least one year of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Basic literacy: read and understand basic instructions, write simple correspondence, and communicate effectively in one‑on‑one and small group settings.
- Proficient in basic arithmetic including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
- Capable of applying common sense to follow written, oral, or diagrammed instructions and resolve routine problems involving multiple variables.
