Responsibilities

Role and Responsibilities

Working alongside our Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you’ll play a vital role in providing top-tier nursing care to inmates/detainees, emphasizing safety and security in the workplace.

  • Provide nursing care within your scope and refer other medical issues to the appropriate physician.
  • Perform comprehensive physical assessments and medical histories.
  • Evaluate patients' symptoms, reactions, and progress periodically, reporting issues to physicians and management.
  • Securely administer medication, preventing drug hoarding and trafficking.
  • Ensure prescribed medications are administered correctly.
  • Educate patients on chronic illnesses, post-hospitalization, and post-surgical care.
  • Supervise the workflow of the LPN staff and contribute to performance evaluations.
  • Document all detainee/inmate contacts and maintain confidentiality of medical records.
  • Adhere to industry and company accreditation policies.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree from an approved program; graduation from an accredited nursing school is required. Must hold a current, unrestricted RN license in the state of the facility. Maintain an up-to-date license on file.
  • Two (2) years of direct work experience preferred.
  • Competence in crisis intervention, medical emergencies, physical assessment, medical and psychiatric nursing care.
  • Ability to work independently, perform nursing diagnoses, and follow through with appropriate treatment.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently:
    Lift or carry and push/pull up to 40 lbs.; walk, stand, sit, bend, stoop, and reach above shoulder level.
  • Occasionally:
    Lift or carry and push/pull up to 60 lbs.; operate machinery; climb.
