The Assistant Manager will oversee day‑to‑day operations of surgical cases to ensure high‑quality service and optimal patient flow.

Position Summary

Combining the strengths of Orlando Health and Watson Clinic, we are expanding access to award‑winning specialty care in Polk County. In Summer 2026 we will open a 550,000‑sq‑ft, state‑of‑the‑art, seven‑story, multi‑specialty hospital featuring:

  • 300+ inpatient beds and 69 emergency and observation beds
  • 11 operating rooms and four cardiac interventional suites
  • Dedicated labor and delivery services – including a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) that will debut shortly after the hospital opens
  • Comprehensive cardiovascular, neurology, and oncology services
  • Advanced surgical procedures

Essential Functions
  • List the primary duties and responsibilities associated with the position, prioritizing them from the most to least important.
  • Coordinate staffing needs and review coverage daily to meet patient care requirements.
  • Collaborate with the surgical control desk liaison, anesthesia, pre‑op, and PACU to assure optimal flow of daily case load and compliance with productivity targets.
  • Monitor schedule to determine any special needs or requests for equipment or supplies.
  • Collaborate with physicians on processes for implementing new procedures and technology and requests for new equipment/supplies.
  • Monitor vendor accessibility and participation in scheduled cases to assure compliance with operating room policies and procedures.
  • Monitor utilization of surgeon block time and operating room suite use as directed.
  • Maintain current list of surgeons, monitor credentials, and update preference cards.
  • Collaborate with the Nursing Operations Manager, Administrator, and Physicians to identify current and future service line needs.
  • Demonstrate professional accountability by maintaining proficiency in assigned role as well as circulator role.
  • Identify future equipment needs or replacements when needed.
  • Actively participate in MEOC working with surgeons to evaluate and pilot equipment and supplies; promote standardization of surgical supplies whenever possible.
  • Demonstrate the ability to operate all specialty instruments, supplies, and equipment in specific service lines as directed.
  • Collaborate with vendors to provide in‑service training to staff on new equipment, procedures, and changes in technology.
  • Provide in‑services for supply, processing, and distribution (SPD) staff regarding cleaning and sterilization of instruments and accessories as directed.
  • Communicate with Materials Management and SPD staff to ensure routine inventories are conducted and prescribed levels of sterile and non‑sterile specialty supplies and equipment are maintained as directed.
  • Assist with clinical evaluation of team members; complete written clinical performance evaluations and conduct timely team member assessments.
  • Participate in the hiring and evaluation of potential team members.
  • Cultivate exemplary customer service throughout the unit/department.
  • Monitor compliance of certifications, licenses, and required education for team members as directed.
  • Plan and evaluate compliance with organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Manage various human resources functions including hiring, work assignments, coaching plans, and performance counseling.
  • Maintain reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Maintain compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
