Description:

Performs landscape and hardscape maintenance duties using the proper equipment, supplies and horticultural procedures so that the campus maintains an aesthetically pleasing and safe condition at all times.

Flexible Work Arrangement: Fully On-site:
Employee performs all of their job duties at a Valencia College location, with flexibility in the work schedule, if appropriate.

Responsibilities
  • Grounds Management:
    Provide timely, professional routine maintenance of Central Florida turf, shrubs, ground cover and bedding plants using proper horticultural practices and manual and power landscape equipment. Include pruning, weed removal, debris cleanup, and reporting plant health or pest issues with replacements as needed.
  • Hardscape Management:
    Maintain clean and safe hardscapes (parking lots, sidewalks, patios, building entrances, streets) and assist in repairs of concrete and paver surfaces; perform routine pressure washing and graffiti/sticker removal as required.
  • Policing/Solid Waste Removal/Recycling:
    Remove litter and debris, service trash receptacles, and manage recycling receptacles appropriately.
  • Irrigation:
    Assist with monitoring, inspection, installation and repairs of irrigation systems; hand water areas not covered by automatic irrigation.
  • Meetings/

    Education:

    Attend department meetings and participate in continuing education opportunities related to operations, safety and horticulture.
  • Equipment Maintenance:
    Use and store equipment properly, report repairs, and perform basic maintenance (blade sharpening, string replacement, fluid checks).
  • Safety:
    Follow safe work practices and use PPE; operate equipment in a manner that protects personnel and property.
  • Emergency Preparedness/Clean Up:
    Prepare for and assist with cleanup after weather-related events.
  • Furniture Moving:
    Assist with moving furniture and setting up events as needed.
  • Other Duties:
    Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Required Minimum Education: High school diploma or GED.
  • Required License/Certification: Valid Florida driver’s license or equivalent; ability to obtain a Florida Driver’s License within 60 days of hire; FLDL must be maintained in good standing.
  • Driver’s License Requirement: Must possess valid Florida Driver’s License; operation of college vehicles required.
  • Preferred Type of

    Experience:

    One year of experience using hand and power equipment in landscape maintenance; experience with multi-location landscape maintenance, flatbed trailer operation, and time management.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to identify Central Florida plant material; experience with trees, shrubs, ground cover and turf; knowledge of landscape and hardscape equipment; customer service oriented; strong time management; effective communication; ability to work in a diverse environment.
General Working Conditions

This job operates at college worksites and grounds and may involve exposure to weather, dirt, dust, fumes, and noise. PPE may be required. Physical demands include lifting 5-100 pounds and typical movements related to landscape work; duties may require safety-conscious decision making and accommodations for disabilities as needed.

Job specific working conditions

Potential exposure to plants, chemicals, fertilizers and particulate material. Will operate a college vehicle on and between campuses and in the local community to perform essential functions.
