Security Officer - Orlando Health - Melbourne - Full Time

Licensure & Certification- Must have a valid Florida driver’s license and be insurable under Orlando Health insurance carrier’s requirements and standards.
- Must obtain a State of Florida Class “D” Security Officer License through the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services within 120 days of hire; renewal biannually before license expires.
- Must obtain Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Certification within 120 days of hire; renewal annually before certification expires.
- Must obtain a Basic Security Officer Certification or higher level of certification through the International Association of Hospital Security and Safety within 120 days of hire and maintained at all times during employment.
- Escorts visitors, employees, and students upon request.
- Patrols all areas of the hospital internally and externally on foot, bicycle, and/or vehicle 24 hours a day in all weather conditions.
- Provides key assistance to all areas of the hospital, including sensitive areas to authorized personnel.
- Detects suspicious activities within the campus and handles the situations appropriately.
- Reports criminal activity to supervisor and law enforcement, as appropriate.
- Investigates accident scenes, searches for and preserves evidence; investigates and interviews witnesses; makes oral and written reports; responds to varying situations with tact and diplomacy and deals with stressful, hostile or irrational people, whether due to physical or mental disability, drugs, or socio-economic differences or other factors and recommends legal action if needed.
- Assists medical staff with the enforcement of Baker Act (F.S. 394.463) and Marchman Act (F.S. patients with the use of approved medical restraints as requested by physicians under Florida Statutes.
- Works with law enforcement and correction officers dealing with patient/prisoner intake and status during the duration of their stay in the hospital. Officers will assist the Patient Care Coordinator with securing the status of non-publicity/high risk patients.
- Reports all safety and security violations throughout the campus.
- Responds to all inbound and outbound helicopter flights by ensuring the safety of the helipad and assists flight crew in handling and transporting patients as needed.
- Uses and understands the operation of walk-through and hand-held metal detectors.
- Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
- Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
