Job ObjectiveAssembles, installs and repairs pipes, fittings, fixtures and equipment of water, gas, drain‑waste‑vent (DWV) and storm systems according to specifications and plumbing codes.
Essential Functions and Tasks- Assemble pipe sections, tubing, and fittings using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking, soldering, brazing, and welding equipment.
- Fill pipes or plumbing fixtures with water or air, use pressure gauges to detect and locate leaks.
- Review blueprints, building codes, and specifications to determine work details and procedures.
- Study building plans and inspect structures to assess material and equipment needs, establish pipe installation sequence, and plan for obstructions such as electrical wiring.
- Perform complex calculations and planning for special or very large jobs.
- Locate and mark pipe installation positions, connections, passage holes, and fixtures using measuring instruments such as rulers and levels.
- Measure, cut, thread, and bend pipe to required angles using hand and power tools and machines such as pipe cutters, threaders, and pipe‑bending machines.
- Install pipe assemblies, fittings, valves, and appliances such as dishwashers, water heaters, sinks, and toilets with hand and power tools.
- Cut openings in structures to accommodate pipes and fittings.
- Repair and maintain plumbing, replacing defective washers, mending broken pipes, and clearing clogged drains.
- Lead workers and helpers in pipe cutting, preassembly, and installation of plumbing systems.
- Install underground storm, DWV, and water piping systems and extend pipes to connect fixtures.
- Clear debris during renovation work.
- Occasionally safely operate company vehicles in compliance with the Fleet Safety Program.
- Performing general physical activities: climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.
- Observing, receiving, and obtaining information from relevant sources.
- Handling and moving objects using hands and arms.
- Identifying information through categorization, estimation, and recognition.
- Repairing and maintaining mechanical equipment, machinery, and moving parts.
