Position: Lecturer in Specialist Teaching and Assessment for Literacy-based Difficulties (Dyslexia)
About the Role As a Lecturer in Specialist Teaching and Assessment for Literacy-Based Difficulties (Dyslexia) within the School of Education, you will be responsible for planning, teaching and assessing on our PGCert Specialist Teaching and Assessment for Literacy-Based Difficulties (Dyslexia) programme. You will also provide specialist teaching across other programmes within the Faculty in relation to Dyslexia and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), as well as contributing to our wider external continuing professional development and knowledge exchange activities.

You will play an active role in supporting high-quality teaching, supervision and assessment, enriching the student experience and supporting excellent graduate outcomes. Alongside teaching responsibilities, you will contribute to the research activities of one of the Faculty’s Research Units and meet the qualitative and quantitative requirements for submission to the next Research Excellence Framework.

Where appropriate, you will also have opportunities to engage with the Faculty’s research centres and supervise postgraduate students.

The role offers scope to contribute to wider Faculty activity, including partnership working, knowledge exchange and continuing professional development aligned to the Faculty’s strategic priorities.

British Dyslexia Association, The Dyslexia Guild or The Professional Association of Teachers of Students with Specific Learning Difficulties (PATOSS).You are experienced in providing high-quality provision for learners with specific learning difficulties, particularly dyslexia and leading training and accreditation for professionals working with learners in settings. You bring a strong track record in learning and teaching, student experience and improving student outcomes.

You bring academic leadership experience and are able to deliver measurable improvement through others, working collaboratively and inclusively.

You will have a strong understanding of cutting-edge policy and practice in relation to dyslexia, and a strong understanding and commitment to regulatory professional bodies such as the UK British Dyslexia Association, The Dyslexia Guild or The Professional Association of Teachers of Students with Specific Learning Difficulties (PATOSS).While the post is primarily to contribute to our Dyslexia provision, we particularly welcome applicants who hold additional current qualifications Dyscalculia, for example, SpLD Assessment Practising Certificate (APC) with a Dyscalculia/Maths Difficulties Remit and are able to contribute to both courses.
