Salary: £28,000 to £34,000 per annum dependent on experience, plus benefits.

THE ROLE

A vacancy has arisen for a Process Development Engineer to work within the Shaping Technology team, part of the Glazing Technology Group in NSGs Global R&D Function. You will be a key member of an R&D technology team who have the responsibility to develop NSGs industrial manufacturing processes, used Worldwide, to produce glazing for the Automotive market. The role is based at the NSG Groups European Technical Centre in Lancashire, but there will be a requirement for Global travel within the role.

The Role , You Will Learn About The Following
  • NSGs furnace technology.
  • How we form the various glass products for the automotive industry.
  • How this technology is at the core of the different manufacturing processes we utilize around the group.
  • The automotive glass specifications and quality requirements expected by our customers.

You will use a combination of hands‑on measurement techniques and data analysis skills to understand correlations and trends within our glass bending manufacturing processes that can lead to improvements in glass quality and process efficiency. Through a combination of practically led development activities, the application of innovative thinking, and problem‑solving skills, this role will contribute to the development of new products and processes.

We will support you in learning about the various ways we evaluate the performance of our glass products, with detailed training being provided on the various measurement techniques we use. You will gain an understanding about how we control the various quality parameters such as the glass shape, optical performance and product robustness. This will equip you with the knowledge you need to help contribute to the Shaping Technology teams goal of improving our glass bending processes.

You will work on R&D projects that are managed via the R&D stage‑gate project system, typically in small collaborative teams, often working with R&D members globally, and with the support from other functions, such as Manufacturing, Quality, and Engineering. It is expected that you will develop the knowledge and experience needed to enable you to lead R&D projects in the shaping technology area.

ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
  • PhD or Masters degree in a Physical Science or Material/Mechanical Engineering.
  • Ability to think analytically and have proven data analysis skills.
  • Strong skills.
  • Possess a willingness to solve problems in a practical way.
  • Have an interest in technological developments and innovation.
  • Be focussed on customer needs and expectations.
  • Experience of working in industrial manufacturing and/or process/product development would be desirable but not essential.
  • European foreign language skills would be an advantage, but not necessary.
