An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Children’s nurse to work in our Paediatric Accident & Emergency Department in Ormskirk Hospital.
Responsibilities- Provide leadership, management and team development as delegated by the Department/Ward Manager to the team, allocating workloads.
- Contribute to setting goals and benchmarking standards of care; develop tools to improve the quality of the service and coordinate clinical services across the ward.
- Coordinate and manage patient flow within the unit including timely admission and discharge, ensuring national targets are met where possible.
- Promote the unit and the Trust in the most positive manner to patients, relatives and the local population.
- Have knowledge of relevant national and local health policies and their impact on the service.
- Inform or raise concerns with the Department/Ward Manager or Matron if acceptable levels of care, standards, practice and patient safety are compromised, and develop appropriate actions.
- Assist and/or lead in the development and implementation of local and Trust policies and protocols relevant to the specialty, ensuring effective implementation in the local area.
- Manage the control and quality of stock and equipment within clinical and non‑clinical areas, and promote and ensure economical use of all resources.
We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Children’s nurse, who is an excellent role model, self‑motivated and committed to the delivery of high standards of quality care. A commitment to staff development and training is essential.
Eligibility & Essential Requirements- Shift work, rotational to night duty.
- Enhanced DBS with barred list for children disclosure.
- Relevant UK experience in a Children’s Accident & Emergency Department, or transferable skills with evidence of proven leadership in that area.
- Availability to commence employment immediately or within a very short time frame.
- Registered Nurse Diploma or degree level, or equivalent experience.
- Current NMC Registration.
- Evidence of continuous professional development.
- Leadership training or qualification (minimum Level 3 ILM or equivalent) or working towards one.
- Knowledge of NMC professional standards for practice within the code.
- Experience of leading a team in a clinical environment.
- Research awareness and commitment to evidence‑based practice.
- Experience of clinical risk assessment and management of identified risk.
- Understanding of key features of Clinical Governance.
- Knowledge of audit and audit procedures.
- Up‑to‑date clinical skills to ensure quality of services being provided by the ward.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organisational skills – prioritise and coordinate own workload.
- Ability to act as a leader, effectively managing staff in the department.
- Ability to coordinate and liaise with multidisciplinary team members.
- Computer literacy – experience of electronic patient record.
- Frequent sitting or standing in a restricted position; occasional moderate effort for several short periods.
- Frequent concentration with unpredictable work pattern – concentration required for patient clinical work.
- Working in a ward environment providing direct clinical care.
- Potential exposure to blood or body fluids.
