Child Direct Care Position – Awake Overnight
Join GAP Ministries, a faith‑based ministry serving Southern Arizona since 1999, in this ministry opportunity to care for foster children in a group home in northwest Tucson.
Base Pay Range16.00 USD/hr – 18.00 USD/hr
Salary: 16.00 USD per hour plus a 1.50 USD differential for overnight work (10:00 PM – 6:00 AM).
Required Skills- At least 1 year of experience working with children (paid or volunteer); verification required.
- Minimum age of 22 years.
- Reliable overnight availability and ability to remain awake during duty.
- Dependable, trustworthy, and capable of housekeeping tasks.
- Basic computer and smartphone proficiency (for vacation leave, reports, emails, calendar).
- Provide direct care to children during overnight hours.
- Ensure the safety and well‑being of children in care.
- Follow established protocols and procedures.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities.
- Collaborate with house parents and managers to create a clean, safe, nurturing environment.
- Handle daily tasks such as meal prep, laundry, transport, and housework.
- Remain awake and alert to keep children safe and maintain a clean, healthy home.
- Be physically fit to keep up with the children, routine, and paperwork.
- Maintain emotional self‑awareness and warmth to work effectively with active, occasionally frustrated, and disorganized children.
- Use a computer and smartphone to manage requests, report submissions, and calendar events.
- Engage in community outings, trainings, and staff activities.
- Embrace our mission and love the children placed under your supervision.
- Stay flexible with a sense of humor in challenging situations.
- Up to 40 hours per week.
- Coverage between Sunday and Saturday.
- Training hours (approx. 45 days): 5:00 PM – Midnight.
- Permanent shift: 10:00 PM – 6:00 AM (approximate).
- Paid FBI fingerprint clearance and card.
- Drug screen and medical exam (fit for duty).
- Bi‑annual CPR, AED & First Aid certification.
- Annual De‑Escalation certification.
- Paid training period.
- No‑cost GAP apparel.

- At least 1 year of experience working with children (paid or volunteer) and a high‑school diploma or GED.
- Minimum age of 22 to operate a 15‑passenger van.
- Valid driver’s license with good 5‑year record.
- FBI and Adam Walsh background checks.
- Manual dexterity, visual and auditory skills, and ability to perform physical tasks.
